Tyler Pastornicky expects to play a lot more for Atlanta this season than he did in his major league debut last year. He is penciled in as the Braves starting shortstop. Last year the 22-year-old's debut consisted of sitting on the bench watching the last game of the team's monumental collapse. While Atlanta was blowing a 9 1/2-game lead in the National League Wild Card race, the Braves also were searching for answers. During the final weekend, manager Fredi Gonzalez brought up Pastornicky after starting shortstop Alex Gonzalez went down with a calf injury. For 24 hours, Pastornicky was a major leaguer. Now he is the only new cog in Atlanta's lineup. But while Gonzalez says he ''likes the kid,'' he isn't ready to officially hand Pastornicky the starting job.

Tommy Hanson back in training

Atlanta Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson is back in camp after his concussion from a car wreck. Hanson said Thursday his headache is gone, but he's still sore and bruised. The one-car accident happened while he was on the way to the first workout for pitchers and catchers. He hopes to be back on the field within a week and says he doesn't expect the layoff to hamper his preparations...

Fan gets Chipper Jones tattoo

Alright, enough with the whole "Chipper Jones is fat" thing. Yeah, yeah...we all saw the picture. Matter of fact, Jones did too, telling The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “I’m also fat now, from what I hear,” Jones said, smiling as he winced while taking his jersey over his sunburned arms. “I’m a little worried, this is the first time I’ve ever been called...

MLB Preview: Atlanta Braves

2011 RecapAt the end of August, it seemed a foregone conclusions that the Braves had locked up the NL Wild Card, holding an 8.5 game lead with just one month left to play. The Braves stumbled to an 9-18 record in the month, which while bad, would still more than likely find them in the postseason. Unfortunately for Braves fans, the Cardinals went 18-8, beating out Atlanta for the...

Laron Landry Getting Chipper Jones Fat This Offseason

Our buddy Jake at Funny Athlete Tweets sent word today that Laron Landry, better known as the NFL strong safety most likely to have a carer as a member of the Chippendales, might be letting himself go after just two months away from the sport. Doesn’t surprise us. Always seemed like that guy was a one-year wonder. A guy who gets jacked on P90X and turns to flab six months later...

Future at shortstop is now for Pastornicky

Tyler Pastornicky arrived at Spring Training early Friday morning, anxiously awaiting the opportunity to begin this season as the Braves' starting shortstop.

Michael Bourn's speed adds new dimension

Im curious to see what Michael Bourn does this season. The guy is a blur, as fast as one of those superheroes in my 6-year-olds favorite cartoons. Bourn has led the NL in steals three straight years and he just turned 29 in December. He bunts. He slashes. He runs down everything in centerfield. He gives the Braves a Lightning McQueen for the first time since a young and reckless...

Glimpse of the Future (part-2): 2014 Braves Pitching

By Jim Pratt The 2014 pitching staff will feature many familiar names as the Atlanta Braves continue to dip into their deep farm system after the eventual loss of Tim Hudson to retirement and Jair Jurrjens to trade or free agency. It’s difficult to say the pitching staff will be better after those losses because of the youth of the arms that will replace them, but there’s no...

Medlen accepting of role in Braves' bullpen

Kris Medlen would like the opportunity to serve as a starting pitcher again and there are a number of Braves fans who would like to see him begin this season in the rotation.

Minor looking more comfortable this spring

Mike Minor appears much more relaxed than he was when he arrived at Spring Training last year with a chance to win the fifth spot in the Atlanta rotation.

Braves' bruised Hanson back in camp, better

Atlanta Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson is back in camp after his concussion from a car wreck.

Approaching 40, Chipper isn't slowing down

If Chipper Jones remains healthy this season and a games-played vesting option kicks in for 2013, he'll undoubtedly play again next year. "You can make that assumption," said the veteran Braves third baseman, seated in front of his locker just prior to the first full day of workouts at Champion Stadium on Saturday.

Wilson to miss time with right calf strain

Jack Wilson will be sidelined four to six weeks with a right calf strain he suffered while working out with Tyler Pastornicky in California on Tuesday.
