MLB Injury News:
The Atlanta Braves have placed infielder Ramiro Pena on the
15-day disabled list with a sore right shoulder, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. The team has diagnosed Pena’s
injury as a right shoulder strain, an ailment that has kept him from playing
Manager Fredi Gonzalez said the roster move was made – Pena to
the DL, Paul Janish recalled from Triple-A – because the infielder still didn’t
feel comfortable throwing after five days of rest. He will visit with team
doctors for further evaluation to determine the extent of the injury and how
long he’ll be sidelined.
"The move is we can't use Pena," Gonzalez said.
"Sometimes you want to defend and you can't, so we decided to DL him. He's
getting all the tests and all that kind of stuff and I'm sure we'll come up
with some kind of diagnosis."
Pena’s been a productive player in a part-time role with the
Braves this season. Over 107 plate appearances, the 27-year-old has hit
.278/.330/.443 with nine extra-base hits.
