Braves’ Raisel Iglesias reacts to losing combined no-hitter with 1 out left vs. Mets

The Atlanta Braves got the win on Saturday but the New York Mets spoiled their combined no-hitter after JD Martinez went yard in the ninth inning. Atlanta put on a spectacular performance on the mound but Raisel Iglesias gave up the home run after coming in for the save. Now, Iglesias shares his reaction to losing the no-hitter.

Overall, the Braves care more about getting the win than anything else, per Jorge Castillo of ESPN. But surprisingly enough, Raisel Iglesias admits that he didn’t even know his team had a no-hitter going.

“When the game ended and I came into the clubhouse, they asked me if I knew there was a no-hitter. I really didn’t know.”

It’s a bit bizarre that Iglesias didn’t know there was a no-hitter going. That’s like entering the game and not knowing what the score is. But there’s a chance Iglesias was able to play looser because of it. He looked solid for the first two outs then just happened to throw a duck down the middle to JD Martinez.

Braves manager, Brian Snitker, wasn’t too worried about losing the no-no. All that truly matters is getting the win. Atlanta is just two games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. But it’s a shame they couldn’t get the no-hitter considering the franchise hasn’t recorded one since 1994.

“‘It’s hard to throw a no-hitter,’ Snitker said. ‘We got a long season. It’s more about winning the game than a no-hitter.'”
