The Atlanta Braves (79-60) beat the New York Mets (65-73) 3-0, last night from Citi Field in Flushing, NY. W - Paul Maholm (12-9), L - Jon Niese (10-9), S - Craig Kimbrel (35) Game Stats: Jon Niese did well through six innings, even though he gave up the game winning HR to Jason Heyward in the 4th inning. Overall he pitched 6 innings, allowed 5 hits, gave up a solo HR and struck out 2 hitters. Jenrry Mejia made his season debut and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009. He went two innings and gave up a solo HR to Dan Uggla in the 9th inning. Mets hitters went 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position which his god awful! The Mets hitters had so chances of bringing runs home and they couldn't get it done. This team needs to make changes in the offseason solving their outfield play which is a complete mess and solve their bullpen as well.
  • The Mets host the Braves tomorrow afternoon in Citi Field at 4:05 pm on FOX.
  • Pitching matchup is Jeremy Hefner (2-5, 4.52 ERA) vs Kris Medlen (7-1, 1.56 ERA).

Davis, Murphy, Thole and Parnell Among Mets Players Eligible For Arbitration

With the Mets discussion now shifting away from the field of play and onto the field of pay, everybody has something to say or report on the matter. The questions are many: How much will Sandy Alderson have to spend? How big is the payroll budget for this offseason? Will the Mets have the resources to keep David Wright and R.A. Dickey beyond the 2013 season? How much money do the...

My last David Wright post

A lot has been written about David Wright and the New York Mets this year. I, for one, have written various versions of the same thing I’m going to write the same thing here, and I’m going to keep on writing it until it either comes true or events develop that result in a different ending. In my world, this is what’s going to happen. (Note – people keep asking me “do I...

Trades From The Past: Rusty Staub for Mickey Lolich?

In 1975, Rusty Staub had his best season ever for the Mets, batting .282/.371/.448 with 30 doubles, 19 home runs and 105 RBI. Then, in the offseason, for reasons few fans could understand, the Mets traded Staub to Detroit for veteran lefthanded pitcher Mickey Lolich. Actually, the trade was Staub and AAA pitcher Bill Laxton for Lolich and AAA outfielder Billy Baldwin. I remember...

Braves 3, Mets 0

Paul Maholm and the Braves bullpen combined to give Atlanta three straight shutouts for the first time in exactly a decade, and the NL wild-card leaders beat the New York Mets 3-0 Friday night. Coming off two 1-0 wins over Colorado, the Braves' staff stretched its scoreless streak to 28 innings. Atlanta last pitched three straight shutouts on Sept. 4-7, 2002, according to STATS...

Dugout DIgest - they're back!

Brian McCann and Dan Uggla struggled through August, putting a giant hole in the middle of the Braves lineup. Yesterday in Flushing against the Mets, the two rebounded in an amazing way. With Kris Medlen on the mound, Atlanta smashed New York 11-3. Uggla reached base five times, while McCann reached four times. The two combined for seven runs scored and four RBI in the Braves...

Mets offense is offensive

The New York Mets were shut out last night, losing 3-0, to the visiting Atlanta Braves, marking the eighth consecutive home game in which they have scored three runs or less.  It is the teams longest such streak since 2003.   The club collected just five hits — all singles — and four walks while going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.  They are now batting .205 with...

Braves pitch 3rd straight shutout, defeat Mets

R.A. Dickey set to become a children’s author

You’re probably most familiar with R.A. Dickey because of his day job.  This season, Dickey has been nothing short of masterful, tossing five complete games, three of which were shutouts, racking up 195 strikeouts against only 45 walks, with a tidy WHIP of only 1.02.  A banner year by any measure.  Now though, it seems [...]

One Last Dance with Chipper

By SBRForum.com Now that they’ve fallen out of the National League playoff picture the New York Mets have been reduced to the role of spoilers for the rest of this baseball season. They’ll try to live up to that role this weekend when they host the NL Wild-Card leading Atlanta Braves for three games at Citi Field starting Friday night. This series also marks the last appearance...

Prospect Pulse: Hitch A Ride On Hansel Robles’ Rising Star

Hansel Robles was large and in charge last night in front of the Coney Island faithful. What an amazing game by Hansel Robles last night who tossed a complete game shutout and struck out ten batters to defeat the Hudson Valley Renegades 4-0 and take Game One of the Semi Final round of the New York Penn League Championship Series. Mets Merized Online’s Peter Shapiro who has been...

Excuse Me While I Vomit…

Here Chipper, we paid some guy an absurd amount of money to make this for you. We just wanted to say thanks for kicking our asses for almost 20 years. First it was Jose, now it’s Chipper. What the hell is wrong with the Mets brass? Why are we thanking players for flipping us the bird and kicking us in the nuts? It just makes no sense at all. I wonder if Fred, Jeff and Saul are...

HYPE files: Luis Mateo

Where’s the hype? Luis Mateo, SP: Luis Mateo was a starting pitcher that was pegged to be a sleeper by many coming into this season. It is no wonder either because there’s a lot to like about Mateo — his frame (6’3”, 185 pounds), relatively young age (22 years old), and his stuff. Mateo sits at 95 MPH regularly (tops out at 97) and has a sharp slider. In the DSL last...
