What a crazy game!! The Atlanta Braves finally hit off the New York Mets’ pitching staff, but they could not hold a lead and finally walked off with an extra inning win on one of the craziest calls I have seen.
Diory Hernandez scored the winning run in the 10th inning on a balk by DJ Carrasco. I’ll admit, I didn’t see it. The replay didn’t show what Carrasco did or didn’t do. It’s a tough way to lose a game. I am just glad that the Braves were the team that won the game.
The positive is that the Braves won and avoided a sweep at the suddenly achilles heel New York Mets.
Negatives are mounting for Atlanta. Before the game it was made known that ace Tommy Hanson will miss his next start due to soreness in his shoulder. Randall Delgado will be called upon to make his MLB debut against the potent Texas Rangers. Delgado has never pitched above AA. Top prospect Julio Teheran pitched on Tuesday and is unavailable for Friday’s game.
Chipper Jones left the game with what is described as an “adductor” strain.
The Braves just activated Jason Heyward before yesterday’s game. They can’t afford to lose more players.
Chipper had an outstanding night at the plate. He went 3-4 with a home run and 5 RBIs. Jordan Schafer went 5-6 with 3 runs scored.
Jonny Venters allowed two hits, two walks and two runs (one earned) to score. This snapped a streak of 22 innings without allowing a run. It also raised his ERA to 0.63.
