ATLANTA The Atlanta Braves will carry 11 pitchers for their National League Divisional Series matchup with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the club announced on Wednesday. As part of that process, though, second baseman Dan Uggla (.179 batting) and southpaw pitcher Paul Maholm (10-11, 4.41 ERA) were omitted from the Braves' 25-man roster for the opening series. (Both would be eligible for subsequent playoff rounds, if merited.) The 11 pitchers include entrenched starters Kris Medlen, Mike Minor, Julio Teheran and All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel, followed by a string of versatile arms Luis Avilan, David Hale, David Carpenter, Jordan Walden, Alex Wood, Luis Ayala and Freddy Garcia (1.65 ERA with the Braves), who could start Game 4 in Los Angeles. Uggla, who belted 22 homers this season, tallied only one monthly split of .200-or-higher batting and .300-plus on-base percentage (June 2013). The rest of the roster includes: Catchers: Brian McCann, Evan Gattis, Gerald Laird Infielders: Freddie Freeman, Chris Johnson, Andrelton Simmons, Paul Janish, Elliot Johnson Outfielders: Justin Upton, Jason Heyward, B.J. Upton, Jordan Schafer, Reed Johnson, Jose Constanza The Braves will host Games 1 and 2 against the Dodgers on Thursday and Friday, before the series moves westward for Games 3 and 4 (Sunday and Monday). A winner-take-all Game 5 would take place in Atlanta next Wednesday, if necessary.
