Third baseman Juan Francisco has been traded from the Atlanta Braves to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor league left-handed pitcher Tom Keeling. The 25-year-old Keeling will be assigned to Double-A Mississippi, the Braves said Monday. Francisco, who had shared time at third base with Chris Johnson, hit .241 with five homers, 16 RBIs and 43 strikeouts in 108 at-bats and was designated for assignment Thursday. He hit .234 with nine homers as Chipper Jones' backup last year. Keeling was the Brewers' 18th-round draft pick from Oklahoma State in 1010. He was 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA and one save with Double-A Huntsville this season.

Kris Medlen Rides Placid Waters

Atlanta Braves starter Kris Medlen was relaxed and upbeat after he garnered his second win of the season Monday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-2.  But nothing new there, win or lose, Medlen’s demeanor is always about the same. The pitcher who has been compared to Greg Maddux on the field, rides the same placid waters as the mellow Maddux did when off the field. Last season...

Three Cuts: Freeman-led Braves grab series win over Nats

ATLANTA Here are three things we learned from the Braves' 6-3 win over the Nationals, which bumped the club's lead in the National League East to 6 12 games: 1. It's going to take a substantial rally for either the Nationals or Phillies to claim the division crown From a players or managers standpoint, it's too early to make any bold proclamations of the Braves...

Braves 6, Nationals 3

Fredi Gonzalez doesn't want to discuss the NL East standings. In fact, one mention of the Braves' big lead in the division made Atlanta's manager groan and complain ''I don't even want to talk about that. It's June 2.'' Ramiro Pena and B.J. Upton hit home runs, Paul Maholm won his third straight decision and Atlanta beat the Washington Nationals...

Braves 5, Pirates 4(10)

Melancon (1-1) walked Dan Uggla to open the 10th. B.J. Upton struck out after fouling off an attempted sacrifice bunt. Melancon then hit pinch-hitter Reed Johnson with a pitch, bringing Simmons to the plate. Simmons...

Braves 7, Pirates 2

The Braves blasted their way past the Bucs to take game one of this week’s series in Atlanta, as A.J. Burnett suffered through his worst start of the season. It was clear early on that Burnett wasn’t happy with home plate ump Dan Iassogna’s strike zone (it definitely did appear to be tight), and he walked three hitters in the first four innings. The third walk was to Freddie...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves – Game 58

What a win yesterday.  You could almost see that Garrett Jones homer coming after he struck out earlier in the game with men on.  I’m pretty sure two people could have caught that ball.  He had to have split it in half. Right back at it though, a plane ride to Atlanta and the grind…
