The Atlanta Braves have come out of the gates hot in the first week of the 2013 season, winning two out of three games against the NL East rival Philadelphia Phillies and sweeping the Chicago Cubs to start the season with a 5-1 record, tying the team with the Diamondbacks and the Rockies for the best record in Major League Baseball.
Although it all comes down to the numbers in the...
The Atlanta Braves have decided to place Freddie Freeman on the disabled list. The team moved Freeman to the 15-day DL and purchased the contract of Blake DeWitt according to the team's Twitter account.
Freeman strained his oblique last Sunday during workouts, but he has been playing through the injury. In fact, he has a home run and seven RBI since injuring himself...
Freeman’s bat will be missed
Braves hot-hitting first baseman Freddie Freeman has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right oblique. The concern is that oblique injuries can often linger well beyond the initial diagnosis.
Freeman has been an anchor at the clean up spot so far this season, hitting .412 with 1 homer and 7 RBIs. He has provided valuable protection...
ATLANTA Taking three cuts after the Braves 4-1 win over the Cubs at Turner Field on Friday night.
1. Yes, He Is A Leadoff Hitter
The knock on Andrelton Simmons entering his first season atop the order was that he wasn't a prototypical leadoff man.
Last season the shortstop drew just 12 walks in 49 games, possessing a 6.6 rate that ranked 13th on the Braves. He had one stolen...
The Atlanta Braves have placed first baseman Freddie Freeman on the disabled list with a strained oblique. He reportedly suffered the injury last Sunday during a workout and opted to play through it, but was visibly in pain during Saturday night's game with the Cubs, necessitating his placement on the DL before the injury gets even worse.
Atlanta has called Blake DeWitt up...
BJ Upton (left) and Justin Upton became the first brothers in major league history to homer to tie, then win a game Saturday against Cubs closer Carlos Marmol.
I mentioned earlier this week how Carlos Marmol has been absolutely dreadful for the Cubs.
Now he’s so bad he’s in the record books.
Marmol allowed the game-tying home run to B.J. Upton, then the walk-off winner to his...
The Atlanta Braves placed first baseman Freddie Freeman on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained right oblique.
Freeman, who his hitting .417 with one homer and seven RBIs through the first five games, said he was upset that team management did not tell him before making the decision.
He added that the injury first occurred in a workout March 31, the day before the season...
The Atlanta Braves have placed first basemen Freddie Freeman on the disabled list. Freeman is dealing with a strained right oblique.
While Freeman believes he could play though the injury the Braves are going to play it safe and allow Freeman to heal. Freeman is expected to be out 2-3 weeks.
This will also give manager Fredie Gonzalez additional time to play Juan Francisco and Chris...
Tim Hudson pitched 6 1/3 innings in the series finale against the Cubs on Sunday. A day after the Braves rallied from a four run deficit in the final two innings they scored four in the fifth and sixth.
Hudson allowed one run and three hits while striking out seven. For much of the game Hudson was overshadowed by Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija who struck out thirteen. The Braves got...
ATLANTA Here are three things we learned from the Braves' 5-1 victory over the Cubs, completing Atlanta's series sweep.
It also marked Chicago's only visit to Turner Field all season (thank expanded Interleague play for that scheduling quirk).
1. In the Braves' case, there are no small heroes just small parts
On Friday night, Mike Minor was the man of the hour...
The acquisition of Justin Upton is already paying dividends for the Atlanta Braves. On Friday night the outfielder connected on his third home run of the season providing all the offense the Braves needed in a win over the Chicago Cubs.
Upton bumped his average up to .308 after the home run. He also added a sacrifice fly and now has five RBI though the seasons first four games.

What might have been the biggest viewing audience for a live boxing match in human history got itself a good show Saturday, then it watched a win for its national hero.
From the standpoint of action in the ring, the most significant outcome on the Macau, China card that aired Saturday on HBO2 was flyweight Brian Viloria...
