MLB Injury News:
On Saturday, I reported here that Brewers second-string first baseman
Mat Gamel, expected to be pressed into service until Corey Hart can return from
knee surgery, left the field during team workouts in Phoenix.
ESPN.com, citing an MLB.com report, has just released word that Gamel
will miss the entire 2013 season after an MRI revealed damage to the same knee
he hurt last season.
The Brewers latest update on Hart was that he might be ready to join the
lineup by late April. For now, Milwaukee
must find a viable fill in at first. No player is listed in the teams’
official depth chart. Carlos Lee is still an unsigned free agent with a fan
base in Milwaukee,
having played there from 2005-06, and might be considered. Former Giant
Aubrey Huff is also without a contract for 2013.

In January I posted about Corey Hart’s injury and what it meant for the Brewers. I wrote a lot about how Mat Gamel would once again take the role as the starting first-baseman with the absence of Hart. Even though I really wasn’t a huge fan of Gamel because he really didn’t prove much with his short stints in Milwaukee, I was still...
Corey Harts' recent knee surgery meant the Milwaukee Brewers were going
to spend spring training looking for someone to tend to first base until their
slugger returns. Mat Gamel is one of the primary people being offered
that opportunity, but coming off his own knee surgery, Gamel hit an obstacle, forcing
him off the field today.
Gamel, 27, is well on his way...
At some point, you have to start wondering what Mat Gamel did to tick off the baseball gods.
The Brewers first baseman will miss the entire 2013 season after re-tearing his right ACL during the team's first full-squad workout this past Saturday. Gamel was pulled from that workout after "tweaking" his knee once while stretching to make a play at first, and again...
Last May, just a handful of games into the 2012 season, Brewers infielder Mat Gamel tore the ACL in his right knee, an injury that would put him out of action for the rest of the year. Now, less than a week into spring training, Gamel has once again torn those same ligaments and will miss the entire 2013 season.
It’s a desperately tough break for Gamel who, at 27, is still looking...
Milwaukee Brewers centerfielder Carlos Gomez will not play for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, according to MLB.com.
The 27-year-old reportedly told the Brewers of his decision Monday, choosing to stay in Milwaukees camp to focus on the upcoming season, the final one on his current contract.Gomez, who has a close relationship with Dominican Republic manager...

PHOENIX For the second season in a row, Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Mat Gamel has suffered a season-ending injury to his right knee. Gamel, who was not available for comment, left practice early on Friday after feeling some aggravation in the repaired joint while fielding and hitting. An MRI on Sunday revealed the tear.

PHOENIX -- Mike Fiers was one of the great surprises of the 2012 Milwaukee Brewers season.
Promoted from Triple-A Nashville in late May to make a spot start after pitchers Chris Narveson and Marco Estrada went down with injuries, Fiers stuck with the team and became one of the Brewers' most reliable starters over the summer.

The opening month of the season has not been too kind to Aramis Ramirez, who is a career .263 hitter in March and April, a full 22 points below his career .285 average. Last year was no different with the third baseman hitting a meager .214 during that stretch, his first in Milwaukee.
Ramirez is out to change that this year.
Seattle Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik has said that he is on the verge of trading first baseman Mike Carp, whom the team designated for assignment last week.
But the Milwaukee Brewers, a team with a glaring need at first base, are not in the mix for Carp, major-league source say.
The Brewers lost Mat Gamel to a season-ending ACL injury on Monday. They also will...

PHOENIX One of the more interesting questions facing Brewers manager Ron Roenicke this spring is who to bat in the leadoff position in 2013. In second baseman Rickie Weeks and right fielder Nori Aoki, the Brewers have two different, but effective possibilities to consider."Rick and Nori are the two options and there are pros...
