Chicago Cubs broadcaster Bob Brenly says he won't return to the team next season.
WGN-TV and Brenly released a joint statement Wednesday announcing his departure from the Cubs. Brenly says he's looking for another baseball broadcasting position. Brenly leaves the team after eight years and a 101-game losing season.
Brenly first worked for WGN radio in 1990, spending time with Harry Caray for two seasons. The former catcher left Chicago to return to the field as bullpen coach for San Francisco. He eventually went to Arizona, where he served as Diamondbacks manager and led the team to a World Series championship in 2001.
Brenly says working in Chicago was one of the most enjoyable experiences of his career. WGN officials say they wish Brenly well.

Earlier today the Cubs completed the Jeff Baker trade with the Tigers as they acquired Marcelo Carreno. Fangraphs uses his first name, Josue, rather than the middle name, which I would guess is what he uses. The trade was announced on August 5th and it was reported at the time that the Cubs would receive [...]
Bob Brenly will return to the site of his greatest baseball accomplishment when he joins the Arizona Diamondbacks' broadcast team next season. Brenly, 58, was the Diamondbacks' manager in 2001 when the franchise won its only World Series championship. He will be the team's television analyst next year, working alongside Steve Berthiaume, who is leaving ESPN's "...
The Mesa Solar Sox were drubbed by the Peoria Javelinas 9-2 yesterday in AFL action at HoHoKam Park in Mesa.
Only two Cubs played in the game, as Matt Szczur got the start in CF and batted lead-off, and Javier Baez hit 5th and played SS.

There has been a lot of discussion on the intertubes in the last day about who can possibly replace Bob Brenly. Alvin has helpfully compiled a list of candidates from various sources and included his opinion of the probability that they are hired. You can go over to see his commentary if you want, but [...]
The Cubs announced their new ticket prices for 2013 and Alvin is doing a victory dance with his bologna sandwich tonight because he is getting a ~10% reduction on his seats up there in the last row of the bleachers. In fact, all season ticket holders are holding basically even or getting a slight discount [...]
Since replacing Steve Stone as the Chicago Cubs television color commentator in 2004, Bob Brenly has been a fan favorite. However, with Mark Grace leaving the broadcast team for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Brenly saw the perfect opportunity to reunite with the team he on a World Series with as a manager. He will be missed [...]
The Arizona Diamondbacks announced their new television broadcast team will feature former D-backs manager and Emmy Award winner Bob Brenly as the analyst, while current ESPN Baseball Tonight and SportsCenter host and veteran broadcaster Steve Berthiaume will handle play-by-play duties. The announcement was made by D-backs President and CEO Derrick Hall.

There's talk about playing another college football game within the friendly confines of Chicago's very own Wrigley Field. Tom Ricketts, Chicago Cubs chairman/owner and director of TD Ameritrade, is talking about having Nebraska and Northwestern play a future Big Ten conference game at Wrigley.
Why Nebraska? Because Ricketts was born in Nebraska, that's why. And even...

Former Arizona manager Bob Brenly rejoined the Diamondbacks as a television analyst Thursday, a day after he left the Chicago Cubs' broadcast crew.
The Diamondbacks also hired Steve Berthiaume to handle play-by-play duties on Fox Sports Arizona.
They replaced analyst Mark Grace and play-by-play broadcaster Daron Sutton.
Grace left voluntarily in August after his second drunken...
PHOENIX It is not a stretch to call Steve Berthiaume a baseball junkie. It is an addiction he suffers willingly.
Berthiaume, who signed a five-year contract to become the play-by-play TV voice of the Diamondbacks beginning in 2013, maintains a library of 75 or so vintage baseball games on his iTunes account. The collection stretches five decades and includes the Brooks Robinson...
