Announced as Oakland's opening-day starter before the game, Brett Anderson allowed one hit in two scoreless innings Thursday in the Athletics' 5-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs. The 25-year-old left-hander, 4-2 with a 2.57 ERA in six starts last year after he recovered from elbow surgery, struck out one and walked none in his first outing of spring training. He'll be opposed by Seattle's Felix Hernandez in the April 1 matchup at Oakland. In his first appearance for the Cubs after leaving Texas as a free agent, Scott Feldman gave up one run and two hits in two innings with two strikeouts and two walks. Derek Norris hit a fourth-inning home run off Travis Wood, his second home run of spring training. Michael Choice had had two hits, including a second-inning triple that followed a walk to Norris.

Manny Ramirez's dreads getting gray

We first shed light on Manny Ramirez’s gray hair back in May. The slugger was just shamelessly out and about being photographed looking like a man 20 years his elder. Well, fast forward nine months and nothing has changed. Well, except he looks a lot skinnier. Remember, Manny is only 40. Here’s the look he was sporting back in May: You would think in nine months time Manny...

Josh Reddick Says He’s ‘Way Better Looking’ Than Brad Pitt

Athletics 11, Padres 6

Dan Straily made his major league debut before making his Cactus League debut. In Oakland's case, that's not unusual. Jemile Weeks hit a leadoff home run in the first inning, Seth Smith later homered and the Athletics beat a split squad of San Diego Padres 11-6 on Wednesday. Weeks, Smith and Jed Lowrie each had two hits and drove in two runs. Smith homered in the second...

Giants 13, Athletics 9

Jarrod Parker pitched two scoreless innings in his first spring start, a 13-9 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Friday. Brandon Belt had three hits and drove in a run for the Giants, who scored seven times in sixth inning against reliever Travis Blackley. Chris Young, in his first appearance in a week, added two hits for the Athletics. Giants starter Madison Bumgarner went 1...
