Brett Jackson should be the starting center fielder on Opening Day.  That’s the good news.  The bad news is the Cubs have already said the good news isn’t the most likely to happen news.  The Cubs have said Jackson will start 2013 in Triple-A.  Thanks for getting my hopes up, good news!  Okay, the not-as-good-as-good news but still good depending on how much you can lie to yourself, Jackson should start the year with the Cubs.  Yeah, “should” gets C grades, almost gets into the state school, decides college isn’t for “should” and ends up working at its mother’s knitting store selling cat patterns to the mothers of its high school ex-girlfriends and “should” is played by Todd Louiso in a story about its life.  So, an April ETA, breaking camp is out of the question for Brett Jackson, but still what can we expect from him in 2013 fantasy baseball? In Triple-A last year, Jackson hit 15 homers with 27 steals while hitting .256.  I’m all for ignoring average, but Jackson showed that he

Season in review: Darwin Barney

I don't really know why, but whenever I think about Darwin Barney I want to pronounce his name with a Boston accent. I guess it makes it more fun to think about Dahwin Bahney rather than what Barney is actually capable of producing. He returns for his 2nd full season though he's probably not the [...]

Arizona State has broken off negotiations with the Chicago Cubs and city of Mesa on playing its baseball games at the Cubs' new spring training facility being built in Mesa. Bimillenial Facepalm – 11.2.1

Cubs "losing" a bunch of players to free agency/waivers Team MVP Shawn Camp was the only officially official free agent on the roster, but a few other players have opted for free agency after being kicked off the Cubs 40-man roster. Apparently they don't realize that "cut from the Cubs roster" is not going to [...]

Mesa Mayor Scott Smith told The Arizona Republic (http://bit.ly/Rxxtgr) in a story Thursday that he will no longer try to broker an agreement unless the sides show some willingness to come together. The proposed agreement had been in the works...

Cubs Rumors: Team Has Interest in Dan Haren

Dan Haren didn't have a bad year necessarily.  He did have a year in which he hit the disabled list for the first time in his career and saw his ERA balloon.  The Los Angeles Angels now have to make a decision about Haren, his durability, and his future.  Does one injury in a decade-long career mean there will be more to come?  Does the anomaly of the 2012 season mean Haren...
