Carlos Gomez and Martin Maldonado each hit two-run home runs to propel the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.
Gomez's homer off reliever Matt Guerrier in the seventh inning erased a 3-2 deficit and Maldonado added his blast an inning later, also off Guerrier, to give the Brewers the cushion they needed.
The comeback overshadowed the major league debut of Dodgers starter Matt Magill. He was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque after Stephen Fife, the scheduled starter, landed on the disabled list with bursitis in his right shoulder.
Magill arrived at Dodger Stadium a couple of hours before the game and seemed a little bit nervous working his way through a 28-pitch first inning.
The native of Simi Valley, which is about 40 miles northwest of Dodger Stadium, settled down nicely, except for an extended third inning. He struck out seven in 6 2-3 innings and retired 12 of the last 13 batters he faced. He left in position to record his...

The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers haven't fared too well at the plate against right-handers. Now they will face rookie right-handed starters they have never seen.
It's hard to know what to expect in Saturday night's pitching matchup between the Brewers' Wily Peralta and Dodgers' Stephen Fife, with Milwaukee seeking to even this series at a game apiece...
While he's often impressed at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles ace Clayton Kershaw has also struggled in recent games there against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The left-hander will try to end those woes while Milwaukee's ailing Kyle Lohse is hoping to continue his success in Los Angeles in Sunday's series finale against the Dodgers.
Kershaw (2-2, 2.14 ERA) is 36-18 with a 2.32...
Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed starting pitcher Zack Greinke underwent surgery to repair a broken collarbone in his non-throwing arm earlier this month. Greinke has recovered to the point where he'll be able to resume throwing early next week, according to Will Carroll of Bleacher Report.
Greinke is scheduled to throw early next week. Yes, you read that right.
Jail records show that Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Yasiel Puig was arrested in Tennessee on charges of reckless driving, speeding and driving without proof of insurance.
Hamilton County jail records posted online show Puig was arrested Sunday by Chattanooga police. No further details were available in the records online, and a Chattanooga police spokesman reached after hours did...
Often the biggest step toward recovering from an injury is playing in a real game for the first time. Los Angeles Dodgers' shortstop Hanley Ramirez did just that yesterday. Ramirez played in his first minor league rehab game since injuring his thumb and ultimately undergoing surgery.
Austin Laymance of MLB.com says Ramirez played with a splint on his thumb to avoid further...
The Los Angeles Dodgers may be on their way to setting a record - but not the good kind. On Saturday night they sent right-handed Stephen Fife to the DL with right shoulder bursitis and called up Matt Magill to take his place.
The Dodgers' official site released the news on Saturday afternoon, just hours before Fife was due to make his start against the Milwaukee Brewers...
Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez is scheduled to make a couple of rehab starts for the Los Angeles Dodgers Triple- A affiliate, Rancho Cucomonga Quakes this weekend. Ramirez has been sidelined with a torn ligament in his thumb for the past 4 weeks, an injury suffered at AT&T Park during the final game of the World Baseball Classic.
Ramirez has sent out tweets and teasers...

One Los Angeles Dodger fan filmed himself catching not one, not two but three different Matt Kemp home run balls out in the stands of Dodger Stadium over the course of three years. Okay, it was only during batting practice but it's still three souvenir balls.
"Matt Kemp Dodger Films!"
When the lineup cards were released to the media, Adrian Gonzalez's name was penciled in. He was set to make his customary start at first base. However, not long before the game started Gonzalez was scratched. The All-Star slugger is battling a skin infection that kept him out of yesterday's contest with the Milwaukee Brewers.
According to Steve Dilbeck of the Los...
Clayton Kershaw retired 18 consecutive batters and struck out 12 in eight dominant innings, Carl Crawford homered twice against Kyle Lohse and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 on Sunday.
Kershaw (3-2) scattered four hits and didn't walk a batter while lowering his ERA to 1.73. The 2011 Cy Young Award winner, who led the NL in ERA in each of the previous...
Brandon League really hasn't endeared himself to fans or those who questioned the 3-year, $22.5 million contract he signed this winter with the Dodgers.
He's currently worse than replacement level (-0.1 WAR) and not exactly inspiring confidence in his late-inning appearances. It's curious as to why that is.
League has always had a good fastball, in terms of velocity...
There’s no debating the fact that the last two years have been rock bottom for Carl Crawford, but it seems that he is back better than ever in 2013. He’s more patient at the plate, not strikeout out as much, surprisingly hitting for power, and aggressive on the basepaths. These are all good things, so let’s break them down piece by piece.Patience — Right now Crawford is being...
Okay, so I’m a bit late to the party here and I’ll keep it brief, not because I enjoy keeping my recaps brief, but because my cold turned into a monster and I’ve barely been able to do anything for myself.
Wednesday night, the Dodgers dropped their game to the Padres 7-2. Clayton Kershaw picked up his 1,000th career strikeout, but gave up 3 home runs, including a shot to...
