Corey Hart and Aramis Ramirez both went 3 for 4 with home runs, and Pittsburgh starter Jeff Karstens left for the second consecutive time with an injury as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pirates 9-3 on Friday night. Milwaukee starter Mark Rogers (3-1) gave up one run in 5 1-3 innings to win his third consecutive start in his last outing of the season. Ramirez had four RBIs and Nyjer Morgan had three hits, a stolen base and a walk for the Brewers. Karstens (5-4) allowed four runs in the first inning and was forced to leave for the second consecutive start with a lower body injury. The right-hander allowed five of six batters to reach base before exiting with discomfort in his right hip flexor. In his last start on Aug. 25 in Pittsburgh, he was removed after throwing seven innings in a 4-0 victory over Milwaukee due to a left groin strain. This time, he was charged with four runs in one-third of an inning, giving up five hits while striking out one. Pittsburgh remained one-half ga...

Brewers, Rogers disagree on innings limit

MILWAUKEE Mark Rogers isn't ready to call it quits on this season just yet. Despite a claim from Brewers principal owner Mark Attanasio during the broadcast of Friday's 9-3 win over the Pirates that the team will shut down the right-hander after his Friday win to limit his innings, the former first-round pick said that he feels as good as he ever has, even with 39 innings...

A Brief History of Owgust, the Barrel Man

Milwaukee Brewers fans and residents of Wisconsin in general are no doubt familiar with the cartoon Beer Barrel Man, who became an official symbol of the modern Brewers when the franchise arrived in town in 1970.  The new, major league Brewers of that time needed some branding, a logo, something to represent the team and connect with locals.  That’s when Bud Selig reached back...

MILWAUKEE As Bob Uecker stared up at his bronzed likeness, now immortalized just outside the walls of Miller Park, master of ceremonies Bob Costas asked him what he'd like to do with his new statue first. "Get my money back," Uecker deadpanned, in a way only the legendary Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster could. For months, Uecker had joked that he couldn't put...

Uecker statue dedicated at Miller Park

A statue of popular Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker was dedicated outside Miller Park on Friday, and those in attendance recalled it was all made possible because of some spilled mashed potatoes and gravy. Uecker, affectionately dubbed ''Mr. Baseball'' by Johnny Carson in the 1970s, joined Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Robin Yount and Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig...

Estrada spurs eye-opening, pitching-duel win

The Pittsburgh Pirates are feeling playoff pressure. The Milwaukee Brewers, conversely, are playing free and loose these days, unburdened by any remaining expectations. Yet, undeniably, the Brewers showed some encouraging signs during Saturday's air-tight, 3-2 victory. Milwaukee's Corey Hart provided the obvious jolt of adrenaline, hammering a solo, walk-off homer off Pittsburgh...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers – Game 132

Only thirty games left.  Whatever happens, this was the best season the Pirates have had in my adult life, and it was fun.  That’s not to say it was a success, because without a World Series it isn’t, but it was still a whole lot more enjoyable than years past. I don’t know why the [...]
