With the Winter Meetings already underway, Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel asked Brewers GM, Doug Melvin, if he was going to meet with Prince Fielder's agent, Scott Boras, and he said, “I don't know. I don't have plans on it.”
If that means the Brewers are moving on even though Fielder's market is shrinking, as Haudricourt points out, they will probably give Mat Gamel a shot at first base. If Gamel fails, Haudricourt says that a “contingency plan” for the Brewers could be moving Casey McGehee from third to first base.
Fielder hit .299/.415/.566 with 38 HR's and 120 RBI's in 569 AB's for the Brewers in 2011.

All eyes are on Albert, but which teams are in on the Prince
At just 27 years of age, Prince Fielder owns 230 career home runs and three consecutive seasons of an OBP north of .400. He hasn't played in fewer than 157 games in a full season, despite his hulking frame. All of that will contribute to what's likely to be plenty of Prince Fielder rumors at this week's Winter Meetings. Let's run down today's:
The Blue Jays...
According to a report out of CBS Cleveland, the Toronto Blue Jays are one of three teams remaining pursuing the services of free agent first baseman Prince Fielder. Prince, whose dad Cecil once played for the Jays, is coming off a season in which he hit .299 with 38 bombs and 120 RBI’s for the NL Central winning Milwaukee Brewers.
The buzz of the move has...
The Winter Meetings started Monday in the deep heart of Texas, and the Orioles along with the other 29 teams in the sport are conducting business for next year. Right now, Baltimore needs pitching, pitching and more pitching as Buck Showalter and Dan Duquette have stated to the masses during the past few days.
As most everyone in the media has stated, the Orioles will be trying...
This news stems from a Buster Olney tweet, but I don’t like linking tweets in case for some reason that twitter account gets hacked and the tweet gets deleted or in case Buster Olney leaves ESPN and is no longer twitter handle ‘Buster_ESPN’ and all that good stuff. So I’ll link Hardball Talk where I originally read the post.

Everybody who cares about the Red Sox, even the tiniest bit, should be paying close attention to Prince Fielder's free agency. Because, right now, it's looking more than likely that he's not only going to wind up in the American League, but possibly the American League East.
How does a 1-2 punch of Jose Bautista and Prince Fielder...
Despite their desire to make a big splash at the meetings, the Washington Nationals were no where to be found on Day 1 of the MLB Winter Meetings. Unless you count conflicting rumors flying off the handle about the teams interest in CJ Wilson, Mark Buehrle, Prince Fielder, and even Albert Pujols. Here's what we know about the Nats after one day of negotiating.
Unfortunately I won't be around my computer much today to keep up on the rumors, but feel free to bombard the comments. I won't be on twitter much either to update the right sidebar, so it's up to you guys, although Cubnut may be on twitter some to keep that going.
Latest Cubs news is that they did offer Albert Pujols a contract, one considerably shorter than the 10-year...
The club is cutting payroll in 2012, so taking on Prince Fielder or anyone else who would demand a large salary is not feasible, the general manager says.Reporting from Dallas -- Prince Fielder is there for the taking. The Dodgers aren't playing, but Ned Colletti had a thought.
