Have the Milwaukee Brewers finished their offseason shopping, as modest as it has been? After signing free agent reliever Tom Gorzelanny, general manager Doug Melvin said he might "dabble a little bit" in the remaining bullpen market but also suggested he might be done. Melvin spent the first part of the offseason deconstructing a bullpen that finished last in the major leagues in 2012 with a 4.66 ERA and with 29 blown saves. He allowed Francisco Rodriguez and Livan Hernandez to leave via free agency, outrighted Jose Veras and Kameron Loe from the 40-man roster and did not tender a contract to left-hander Manny Parra. The only major league moves Melvin made to refill those gaps were a trade for Tampa Bay reliever Burke Badenhop and the signing of Gorzelanny. That duo will be added to returning closer John Axford, setup man Jim Henderson and in all likelihood Brandon Kintzler, if healthy. The Milwaukee Brewers have made a move to address their most pressing need: relief pitching.
The Brewers have agreed to a one-year deal with free-agent left-handed relief pitcher Mike Gonzalez, according to a source.
Gonzalez, 34, had a 3.03 ERA in 47 appearances with the Washington Nationals in 2012. He held left-handed batters to a .179 average last season.

The Brewers have agreed to sign left-handed reliever Mike Gonzalez to a one-year $2.25mm deal, Jim Bowden of ESPN and XM Radio reports. The deal also includes an unknown amount in performance bonuses and will not be finalized until after the first of they year.
Gonzalez signed a minor-league deal last May with the Nationals after bypassing other opportunities.

Mike Gonzalez has seen a decline in his productivty in recent years. That's probably part of why he did not get a longer deal this offseason. However, Gonzalez did get a deal. According to sources, he has signed with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the deal to be a one-year contract.
