The Brewers will be without pitcher Chris Narveson for a bit.  He is trying to recover from a  sprained finger, but the recovery process will take some time.  The Brewers chose to place him on the disabled list yesterday. According to Adam McCalvy of, the club will look at position player options to replace Narveson on the 25-man roster. #Brewers will call up a position player tomorrow to replace Chris Narveson (15-day DL, sprained left middle finger). — Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) April 8, 2013 Narveson has had a string of bad luck in the injury department.  He underwent season-ending surgery on his shoulder last year which prevented him from becoming a lock for the rotation.  Narveson did not make the starting rotation out of spring, but he did make the big league roster.  Narveson has been pitching in relief so far this season, but now with his finger injury, he will be forced back to rehab and uncertainty. Narveson has appeared in two games this season.  He has a total of two innings-pitched and has allowed just one hit.  The Brewers have some options when Narveson returns.  They can continue to use him in long relief, short relief, or put him into the rotation if anyone struggles.  However, they will first have to get by without him for at least 15 days. Narveson has a career 26-18 record.  He has started 63 of the 97 games in which he's appeared.  Over the course of six seasons, Narveson has a 4.65 ERA. Brewers place LHP Narveson on DL

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed left-hander Chris Narveson on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained middle finger on his left hand. No corresponding roster move was announced, but manager Ron Roenicke told reporters after Monday's 7-4 victory over the Cubs that a position player would be recalled from Triple-A Nashville prior to Tuesday night's game. Narveson, who...

Just How Broken is John Axford, Really?

Monday afternoon, the Brewers were leading the Cubs 7-2 going into the bottom of the ninth. Brandon Kintzler took the mound, but after three straight batters reached base, he was replaced by Jim Henderson. Henderson allowed a little bit of damage, but he successfully slammed the door, picking up a save. Henderson pitched in part because John Axford threw 18 pitches on Sunday. Henderson...

John Axford Loses Closers Job, Jim Henderson Hot Pickup

Monday was a pretty mundane day for Milwaukee Brewers pitcher John Axford as he literally was given the axe as the closer in the Milwaukee bullpen. Taking over until Axford gets back on track is Jim Henderson. In 2 and 2/3 innings this season, Axford had allowed four home runs and a 20.25 ERA. Don’t over think yourselves though, as Axford does have 81 combined saves the past...

Back issue sends Brewers' Roenicke to ER

Injuries have hit the Milwaukee Brewers so hard even their manager is battling an ailment. Ron Roenicke was taken to a Chicago emergency room Tuesday morning when his back froze up at about 5:30 a.m. in his hotel room. According to the team, by late morning Roenicke was back at the hotel and doing fine. He is expected to manage Tuesday night against the Cubs. The news of Roenicke...

Brewers spread way too thin in slow start

MILWAUKEE This was certainly not how the Milwaukee Brewers wanted to start their season -- especially having been gifted with six games at home. Not only did Sunday's 8-7 extra-innings loss to Arizona drop Milwaukee to 1-5 on the young season -- its worst six-game start since 2003 -- but the Brewers lost three more starters to injuries in the process. Bruised in the lineup...

Brewers sticking with Axford -- for now

MILWAUKEE -- It was only a matter of time before the question got asked. Has Ron Roenicke had any thoughts of changing closers? Due to a tired bullpen, John Axford came out for the 11th inning Sunday after working a scoreless 10th. Following a leadoff double by Diamondbacks shortstop Cliff Pennington, Wisconsin native and pinch hitter Eric Hinske belted a curveball to center for...

Don’t Blame Henderson, John Axford Diss

As Sam Cooke said when looking at John Axford on my fantasy teams, "Change is gonna come." Thanks, Sam. Sam also said the same thing after I gave a waiter twenty dollars on a $12 bill. Speaking of paper money, is it me or do people pull out a five dollar bill and also wonder to themselves, "Hey, when did they put Daniel Day Lewis on money?" The Brewers said...

Report: Back issue sends Roenicke to ER

Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke was taken to an emergency room in Chicago on Tuesday morning, according to WTMJ Radio in Milwaukee.Roenicke's wife told the station that that his back "froze up" around 5:30 a.m. in his hotel room and that he was unable to make his usual radio appearance. It has not been disclosed whether Roenicke has a history of back problems...

Brewers seeking answers in bullpen

Ron Roenicke posed a question he's probably asked himself a variation of a lot between last season and the beginning of 2013. "Our choices for the late innings, it's the same thing," Roenicke said. "When (Jim) Henderson is down, then where do you go to?" The Brewers' manager turned to Michael Gonzalez and John Axford Tuesday night, and the results...

Brewers’ Ryan Braun misses third straight with neck injury

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun missed his third consecutive game yesterday due to a lingering neck injury. Braun continued to struggle with the simple task of moving his head on Saturday, and it’s clear that his neck continues to give him issues. While it’s not expected to be a long-term problem, it’s caused the slugger to miss the team’s past three...

Brewers 7, Cubs 4

Marco Estrada pitched seven effective innings and doubled home a run Monday, helping the Milwaukee Brewers stop a five-game slide with a 7-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs in the first game of the season at Wrigley Field. With a strong wind blowing out at the start of the game - a rare sight for an April date at the iconic neighborhood ballpark - Estrada allowed two runs and five...
