Brewers closer Josh Hader's scoreless streak ends against Phillies via back-to-back homers

Milwaukee Brewers closer Josh Hader tied an MLB record with 40 consecutive scoreless appearances, but the Philadelphia Phillies didn't allow him to get to 41.

On Tuesday night, Hader was brought in with a 2-1 lead and an opportunity for his 19th save of the year. Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm promptly ended that hope with a 426-foot blast over the wall in left center field.

Hader got shortstop Bryson Stott to pop out in the next at-bat, but pinch hitter Matt Vierling came into the game and gave Philadelphia the lead with a 416-foot shot into left field.

On Sunday night, Hader tied Ryan Pressly for the longest streak of scoreless appearances and will have to settle for a share of the record.

The Brewers fell to 33-24 on the year with the loss, but still have a 0.5 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the NL Central. The Phillies have won five straight games to improve to 26-29 on the year, but are 11 games behind the New York Mets in the NL East.
