I just checked in with Brewers general manager Doug Melvin who is not in Chicago preparing for today's split doubleheader with the Cubs. Instead he's at Miller Park in the trade "war room" where things seem very quiet leading up to the Wednesday 3 p.m. non-waiver deadline.
Because right-hander Kyle Lohse has been pitching so well for so long I asked Melvin if he's getting a lot of action on him from other clubs
"I don't think I'm motivated to move him" said Melvin. "He's throwing very well for sure but we haven't (discussed any deals for Lohse) to this point.
"I can gauge what teams will offer for a player and it's not worth (talking) at this point. I don't engage teams unless I think it's a strong possibility."
Melvin said he hasn't engaged teams in trade talks about Yovani Gallardo either. Gallardo who starts today against the Cubs hasn't helped his trade value with the way he has pitched but the Brewers aren't shopping him either.
