The Brewers have some interesting decisions to make regarding their starting rotation for the remainder of the season.

The team has been monitoring the innings of rookie pitchers Mike Fiers and Mark Rogers, and both are expected to be shut down at some point. Rogers, who started Monday against the Cubs, could be first.

"Rogers, after tonight, we've got to talk about," said Roenicke. "I don't want to say this is his last one but we're getting close."

The Brewers also are expected to re-insert right-hander Shaun Marcum into the rotation this weekend. Out since mid-June with an elbow issue, Marcum was slated to make his last minor-league rehab start with Class A Wisconsin on Monday.

Roenicke said he wasn't sure which day Marcum will make his return to the rotation.

"We've looked at it," he said. "Whether it's the fifth or sixth day, we're not sure yet. We've just looked at where he's going to slide back in and whether he feels like he wants that extra day this time or if he wants to stay on his five (day rotation)."

Marcum could be added as a sixth starter for a period of time or replace one of the current starters, Roenicke said.

"We talked about both," said Roenicke. "We've got plans for going with six, and we've got plans to maybe go with five. We'll still need to talk about that."

Asked if struggling lefty Randy Wolf (3-10, 5.69) is staying in the rotation, Roenicke said, "Right now, we are. I know that'll be something we talk about."

Roenicke said it is possible that pitching prospects such as Wily Peralta and Tyler Thornburg could be given some starts in September.

"We'll have to see what we do to get to September, and then once we're there, adding on some guys to fill in," said Roenicke. "I think it'll be OK. Some guys won't be in there because of innings. So, that's what it's going to be."
