MILWAUKEE -- By now, Tyler Thornburg is used to an ever-changing role. He's bounced back and forth between the bullpen and starting rotation quite a bit in his short major-league career, but the rookie right-hander is aiming to establish himself in the final month. But because the Brewers aren't sure how they will set up their rotation past the upcoming Pittsburgh series, Thornburg could have just Monday's start or he could have the whole month in the rotation. For now, he's taking it start-by-start. "I haven't heard what we are going to do, I don't know what I'm going to do," Thornburg said. "So that's pretty much all I can do. That's all I have been trying to do for the past couple of years. I think last year helped me and so far this year, I think I've learned to take it one day at a time instead of trying to look ahead. It's a lot easier when you do that." Last year, Thornburg was up and down from Double-A and Tripl...

Brewers Saturday: Tom Gorzelanny moved to bullpen

MILWAUKEE -- The experiment of trying Tom Gorzelanny in the starting rotation is officially over, as the veteran left-hander will move back to Milwaukee's bullpen. Right-hander Tyler Thornburg will replace Gorzelanny for Monday's start against Pittsburgh, but his rotation spot isn't guaranteed as the team tries to figure out how to handle a surplus of starting pitchers...

Brewers give Carlos Gomez day off on Monday to rest up

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez has been fighting through multiple injuries -- some major, some minor -- for quite some time now. After tolerating the pain to play every day for the past nine games, Gomez finally decided it was time for a day off. Gomez, who has played every day since returning from a right knee sprain on Aug. 23, didn't ask Brewers...

Brewers endure unsettling setback to Angels

MILWAUKEE -- Marco Estrada just happened to be walking past a clubhouse TV when the stat was read. The Brewers were the only team in baseball not to lose a game this season when leading after eight innings, a perfect 50-0. "Next thing you know we lose the game," Estrada said. One out away from another save, Brewers closer Jim Henderson surrendered a home run off the foul...

In game of inches, Milwaukee falling just short

MILWAUKEE -- On paper, the three-game sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels appears particularly frustrating for the Milwaukee Brewers. Fresh off two road series wins against National League Central contenders, the Brewers were swept in a home series for the first time since early May with a 5-3 loss to the Angels. But after being beat soundly in the series opener Friday,...

Lucroy just misses, Brewers lose to Angels 5-3

The Brewers had their hottest hitter at the plate Sunday with the game on the line. After a feisty at-bat, Jonathan Lucroy went down swinging. Lucroy struck out with the bases loaded in the eighth inning on the 12th pitch of a battle with Angels closer Ernesto Frieri, and Los Angeles held on to beat Milwaukee 5-3 for a three-game sweep of their interleague series. Lucroy, who...

Brewers eye another chance to play spoiler to Pirates

Charlie Morton finally ended his woes against the Milwaukee Brewers last week by outdueling Tom Gorzelanny, but Milwaukee has made a change to its rotation to avoid a repeat of that scenario. Tyler Thornburg will instead start Monday, looking to give the NL Central-leading Pittsburgh Pirates more trouble in the opener of a three-game set at Miller Park. Milwaukee (59-77) won two...

Jermichael Finley spikes first pitch into ground

ap photo The Milwaukee Brewers had Jermichael Finley throw out the first pitch at Friday night’s game and the results were disappointing. Finley did his best Carly Rae Jepsen impersonation by spiking the ball into the ground. Finley may take pride in the fact that the ball actually left the mound. Once the NFL season gets underway the 26-year-old Finley will look to improve on...

Fox Sports Girls, Take a Hike

Image: digplanet.com The Fox Sports Wisconsin girls appeared out of nowhere. They became the commercial-break cheerleaders and vacant media personalities no one had asked for. Their newfound presence was greeted with shrugs, acquiescence, cheers and boos in the households of Brewers fans.  Few have challenged this upheaval with the notable exception of Nicole Haase...
