Most of you were probably watching the Big Ten championship game, but the Brewers played today, too. The Crew snapped their losing streak by edging out a 5-4 victory against a split Rockies squad. Yovani Gallardo started, allowing 3 hits and a walk while striking out two over 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Marco Estrada added three innings of excellent relief, holding the Rockies scoreless on a hit, a walk, and three strikeouts. Another bright spot was righty reliever Santo Manzanillo, who finished the fourth inning after Gallardo reached his pitch limit, and was reaching the mid-to-upper 90s just a few months after injuring his shoulder in a car accident during Winter ball. The only runs were allowed by Taylor Jungmann, who allowed four runs as a result of some bad luck that included a couple bloop hits and a fly ball lost in the sun that became a triple.

At the plate, the Brewers managed to score five runs without a great deal of excitement. Rickie Weeks had another double, as did Brooks Conrad. Logan Schafer had a really tough day, going 1-for-2 to drop his average to .538, while Aramis Ramirez is yet to get his first Cactus League hit. Taylor Green came into the game as a sub and added a single.

In other news, non-roster pitcher Juan Perez is likely to miss at least a week of games. He has been hospitalized with a partially collapsed left lung. Perez had been pitching pretty well in camp and has much better stuff than your average minor-league free agent, but this is definitely not a good thing for his chances of making the club. However, it looks like Perez will be fine in the long run, and for that we're thankful.

The Brewers are off tomorrow, and have split-squad games against the Mariners and Athletics on Tuesday. Zack Greinke will start at home against Seattle and Mike Fiers will go against Oakland.
