MILWAUKEE With Jonathan Lucroy returning to the Brewers' lineup and young catcher Martin Maldonado in the middle of a breakout season in Lucroy's stead, Milwaukee was left with three capable catchers on its major league roster -- a logjam the team didn't have room for. So on Thursday, the Brewers announced that backup catcher George Kottaras the longest-tenured catcher on Milwaukee's roster would be designated for assignment. The team still has 10 days to trade a Kottaras, a move Brewers manager Ron Roenicke knows general manager Doug Melvin hopes to make to ensure Kottaras lands with a major league club. "We've got the days to do it, and hopefully it'll work out," Roenicke said. "This guy belongs in the big leagues, and that's the tough part. I know this is the right move for us, but the issue is George is a major league catcher. I hope it works out where he can go with somebody. And if he goes with somebody, hopefully it'll be ...

Greinke's teammates react to trade rumors

MILWAUKEE As the baseball world swirled for weeks with trade rumors involving Milwaukee pitcher Zack Greinke, the Brewers' clubhouse remained relatively mum in regard to one of the trade deadline's most discussed commodities. But on Thursday, it was clear that dynamic has changed. A television in the clubhouse prominently featured two analysts discussing potential trade...

Marcum feels discomfort in bullpen session

MILWAUKEE After one bullpen session for Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Shaun Marcum yielded nothing but good news, Marcum's second bullpen session wasn't quite as successful, according to Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. Roenicke fell short of calling the session a setback, but he admitted the team would know more after Saturday, when athletic trainer Dan Wright is scheduled to...

Carlos Gomez hits foul ball, thinks it's a home run

Carlos Gomez thought he led off Wednesday's Brewers-Phillies game with a home run but had no idea that the ball hooked foul of the left-field pole until after he already did his Trot of Shame around the bases. The Milwaukee Brewers centerfielder seemed pretty confident he blasted the solo shot over the fence and pumped his fist as he rounded the bases.  It wasn't until...

Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez rounds the bases...on a foul ball (Video)

Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez hit a deep fly ball and rounded the bases during his leadoff at-bat in Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Just one problem: the ball that Gomez hit curved foul, and Gomez didn't realize that it wasn't a home run until after rounding third base. Now there's something you don't see every day....

Carlos Gomez Thinks He Has Hit Home Run, Rounds Bases, Realizes He Hit a Foul Ball

“From the extreme high, to the extreme low,” is the only way to describe this situation. Carlos Gomez, of the Brewers, crushed a ball which was a few feet from being called a home run, and instead of paying attention to the umpires, he rounded the bases thinking he’s hit a home run only to find out it was a foul ball somewhere between third base and home plate. He went on...

Brewers bullpen blows lead in third straight

For 45 minutes before Wednesday's game against the Phillies, the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen met behind close doors with manager Ron Roenicke and pitching coach Rick Kranitz. Something needed to be fixed that much was obvious, as the Brewers relievers gave up two leads in two nights to turn what could've been a bounce-back series into a potential death sentence for the fourth...

Zack Greinke’s in His New Home

The trade deadline rush has not disappointed so far, and the latest big news is that Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin delivered on his promise to move Zack Greinke. Greinke is now an Angel. Marc Hulet already covered the prospects that the Angels sent to Milwaukee. Was it a “good” trade? Well, the Brewers are not going anywhere, and Greinke is going to be a free agent who...

Brewers' System Gets Boost in Greinke Deal

It always stings when you trade away a high caliber pitcher like Zack Greinke. The blow is lessened, however, when you net the type of prospects Milwaukee did in exchange for Greinke. While it's difficult to say who came away the winner of this near deadline trade, it's safe to say that the Angels did pay a hefty price for Greinke's services.

Could Brewers’ Zack Greinke Shine In Hollywood?

Last week, reports started swirling around the interwebs that the Angels had entered the race for Zack Greinke. It would be an ideal fit for the Angels as Dan Haren has been hurt, and Ervin Santana has been nothing short of inconsistent. Just to tease Angels fans, here is their possible rotation if they acquire Greinke: Jered Weaver Zack Greinke CJ Wilson Dan Haren - Assuming...

The Phils come from behind for the second straight night, as they defeat the Brew Crew again, 7-6.

The Phils seems to have reverted to the ’07-11 version, as they unloaded for six runs in the eighth inning to come back from behind for the second night in a row as they defeat the Brewers, 7-6. The Brewers tried to take the lead in the first as, with two men on , and with one man out, Norichika Aoki, who had started the game off with a single, then moved up to second base on Ryan...

Zack Greinke is heading to Los Angeles. The Angels have reportedly traded for the Brewers right-hander, according to multiple reports, in exchange for a package of prospects including shortstop Jean Segura. Brewers closer John Axford under fire for comparing Tim Tebow to a Kardashian

Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford found himself in the eye of a Twittercane (that’s a hurricane that occurs in the Twitterverse, Twitterverse being the universe of Twitter, of course) after tweeting a brief — and innocuous — comparison related to how he perceives similarities between the phenomenon surrounding both New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow [...]
