Found June 30, 2013 on Cardinals Farm:
The Baby Birds ended the night with a 2-4 record as Palm Beach and State College were your only winners. Palm Beach features some of the hottest Baby Bird hitters in Anthony Garcia and David Popkins who each hit close to .400 for the month of June and will be in contention for June Player of the Month. Another contender will be Brock Peterson of Memphis who collected 3 more hits on Sunday. An interesting prospect to watch is Johnson City’s Kenneth Peoples-Walls. A 4th round pick in 2011, Peoples-Walls is making the jump from the GCL Cards to Johnson City and off to a great start. In 8 games, the 19-year old is hitting .385. He needs to cut down on the K’s and raise the OBP to be in the consideration as a top prospect. Here are short game summaries of the Sunday games and individual performances: (AAA) A late Memphis rally fell short as the Redbirds scored twice in the ninth but lost 5-3. Brock Peterson had 3 more hits and Mitchell Boggs pitched a scoreless inning in relief. Tyler Lyons gets the Monday start as the Redbirds travel to Iowa to face the Cubs. (AA) The Springfield Cardinals rally in the ninth fell just a run short as the Cards scored 1 but it wasn’t enough. Tim Cooney had a solid start as he struck out 8 over 5 2/3 innings, but took the loss. A Monday starter has yet to be determined for the S-Cards. (A+) The Palm Beach Cardinals have won 3 on a row as they defeat Bradenton on Sunday. Danny Stienstra and Anthony Garcia stay hot. David Popkins also adds 3 hits and is now hitting .348. The Cards starter for Monday has yet to be announced. (A-) Peoria took the walk-off loss ass Robert Stock had control issues in the 9th. Stock hit a batter and walked 3 including walking in the tying run. Nick Martini had 3 hits and 2 RBI. Bradley Watson gets the Monday start for the Chiefs. (SS-A) State College had a 5-run 9th inning to break a 2-2 tie and win the game 7-2. Kyle Webb picked up his first professional win after Chris Perry had another solid start. Mitch Harris continues to pitch very well. Kevin Herget gets the Monday start as the Spikes travel to Williamsport. (SS-R) The Johnson City Cardinals lost in the 12th inning in walk-off fashion. The Cards had the lead in the 8th when they allowed the tying run. Kenny Peoples-Walls continues to stay hot. Blake McKnight gets the Monday start for Johnson City.

St. Louis Cardinals: Bigger Upside, Michael Wacha or Carlos Martinez?

As St. Louis Cardinals fans look to the future of the starting rotation, who has the bigger upside–Michael Wacha or Carlos Martinez? Both are currently down at Triple-A Memphis, but for different reasons. Wacha is down to conserve his arm by limiting his innings, while Martinez is there to stretch his arm out to be more prepared for the starter role in the future. Both have bright...

McNeal: Five key issues facing the Cardinals

ST. LOUIS -- The Cardinals have to be content to reach the midpoint of their season on a pace to win 98 games. Of course, they also have to be concerned following a 14-14 June during which starting pitchers not named Adam Wainwright combined for a 5.40 ERA. Which brings us to this: Should the Cardinals be more content or concerned about the 81 games left in their regular season...

Cardinals rumors: St. Louis unlikely to trade Oscar Taveras

Oscar Taveras is on the disabled list at Triple-A for the second time this season.  He re-injured his ankle about a week ago not long after coming off the DL for the original ankle sprain.  The St. Louis Cardinals will evaluate him cautiously and let him return slowly.  They do not want to risk a long-term, serious injury.  He is one of the top prospects in baseball, after all...

McNeal: Five Cardinals on pace for big-time seasons

ST. LOUIS -- Through the team's first 81 games, at least five Cardinals are on a pace to finish 2013 with some eye-popping numbers. The odds of maintaining these paces, however, are a reflection of the length of the season. That is, the longer the season goes, the longer the odds become. Sizing up their chances: Yadier Molina: On pace for 200 hits. The weather and the schedule...

St. Louis Cardinals need to give Shelby Miller a break

The second half of the Major League Baseball season is still a week away, but St. Louis Cardinals rookie right-handed starting pitcher Shelby Miller is throwing as if the calendar is about to turn to September, not July. Miller had the worst outing of his brief career Friday when he gave up five runs in 1.2 innings in a 6-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics, which continued a downward...

Revisiting the Cardinals Top 20 Prospects

Entering the season, the St. Louis Cardinals wealth of top notch prospects was the spotlight of all organizations in baseball. But the season has proven that depth, not names, is truly the strength of the system. Over the course of the season, the youth has been heavily leaned on at a record clip to help the team have the strong start it has enjoyed. Over the course of only half...

Food poisoning sidelines Cardinals' Adams

First baseman Matt Adams has been scratched from the St. Louis Cardinals lineup as a result of food poisoning. Adams hit two home runs in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Athletics and was penciled in the seventh spot in the Cardinals batting order again on Sunday before manager Mike Matheny made the decision to pull him from the lineup. Ty Wigginton took Adams spot in the infield...

Anthony Garcia and Zach Petrick are June Players of the Month

The month of June featured a couple of prospects who got on a roll and stayed hot for the entire month. June also featured a prospect who had a 0.45 ERA and that was actually worse than his May ERA of 0.00. Let’s take a look at CardinalsFarm’s Players of the Month. These are not necessarily the players the Cardinals organization will select, just the ones that we picked. Offensive...
