Miami Marlins RHP Edward Mujica was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a fractured right small toe. The team called up LHP Wade LeBlanc, who is 5-5 with a 3.74 ERA in 16 starts for Class AAA New Orleans. Mujica was hit on the foot by a Placido Polanco grounder in Friday's game but he stayed in the game after the play and finished the inning. "Then I came back to the dugout and started feeling it," Mujica said. "I started feeling a twinge in my ankle, and (pitching coach Randy St. Claire) came over and I said, 'I'm out because I'm feeling pain.'" Manager Ozzie Guillen said he hopes Mujica can return shortly after the All-Star break. Until he returns, Guillen said Mujica's eighth-inning role will be split by RHP Steve Cishek -- who tossed a scoreless eighth inning Sunday -- and left-handers Randy Choate and Mike Dunn. "(Mujica) could get better in four days, but you never know," Guillen said. "If we w...

Who Misses Jose Reyes?

Jose Reyes batted .354 in first half of 2011, and is batting .269 in 2012. It’s funny how some things work in this game. About a year ago this week we were staging a “Don’t Trade Reyes Rally” at Citi Field and everyday we were consumed with countless posts about keeping Reyes at all costs and how the team would be doomed if we lost him. I oughta know because I wrote a handful of...

Marlins look for continued success against Phillies

The Miami Marlins have had little success this month, except when they've faced the Philadelphia Phillies. Hoping to beat Cole Hamels for a third straight time this season, the Marlins look for a fourth consecutive win over the visiting Phillies on Saturday. Josh Johnson threw six strong innings and outfielder Justin Ruggiano had three hits and two RBIs as Miami (36-40) beat...

Buehrle tosses strong seven innings as Marlins edge Phillies

MIAMI -- Seven innings and two runs allowed, Mark Buehrle will take that every time. And so will the Miami Marlins. Buehrle (7-8) also allowed seven hits and struck out seven in a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies to win their third straight. "The couple hits they got were change-ups up in the zone, but overall I'll take every start going seven innings and giving...

Phillies on wrong end of sweep vs Marlins

The half-way point of the season finds the Phillies nine games under .500 and 11 games out of first in the National League East. They reached season highs in both of those marks by virtue of a three-game sweep at the hands of the Miami Marlins.

Marlins 3, Phillies 2

MIAMI -- Mark Buehrle pitched seven strong innings for the Miami Marlins to beat Cole Hamels and the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-2 on Saturday. Giancarlo Stanton homered and drove in two runs for the Marlins, who have won three straight for the first time since May 28-30 when they swept Washington. Buehrle (7-8) allowed two runs and struck out seven. Mike Bunn pitched the eighth...

Marlins 5, Phillies 2

MIAMI -- Ricky Nolasco tossed seven effective innings for the Miami Marlins in a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday to complete a sweep over their rivals for the first time in nearly three years. Hanley Ramirez and Giancarlo Stanton each homered for the Marlins, who last swept the Phillies August 7-9, 2009 at Citizens Bank Park. The Marlins have won four consecutive...

Marlins sweep Phillies

Hanley Ramirez picked a good time to end his home run drought. Ramirez hit his first homer since June 3, ending his drought at 89 at-bats with a two-run shot in the eighth inning in a 5-2 victory over the struggling Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. ''We've been waiting for Hanley's big day,'' Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen said. The Marlins completed a three...

Phillies Swept Out of Miami

The Phillies fell to the Miami Marlins, 5-2, and in the process were swept by a team they continue to chase in the bottom of the NL East. Their losing streak is now at five. The team that won 102 games last year is now 36-45, their worst record halfway through a season since 1997. During that season, the Phillies lost 94 games.
