Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy knows his team is in a tough position right now. The club is decimated by injuries, and the manager is trying hard to navigate the team through the turbulence.

“We’re thin, and you have to work around it. We don’t have a choice,” Bochy said. “Every season, you probably go through something like this. We are getting our share of it, so these young kids are going to get a chance to show what they can do up here.”

The Rangers are hit particularly hard in their rotation, per the team’s depth chart. Six hurlers in the rotation are on the injured list, per time of writing. Another four pitchers in the team’s bullpen are also unavailable. The problems don’t stop there, as the team also has three infielders out. A designated hitter and an outfielder round out the long list of injured players.

Bochy is doing a good job of keeping this team together. The Rangers are 22-18 on the season, despite the plethora of injured players. Texas is leading the American League West Division, at time of writing. The team has a half-game lead on the Seattle Mariners. The Rangers have won 6 of their last 10 games, as they navigate the injuries.

“We all trust each other, we know that they are going to pick each other up. It’s a collective group effort, it always is,” Rangers pitcher Jacob Latz said. “It’s a next man up mentality, and it always is.”

There may be some good injury news around the corner. The team is hoping to get hurler Nathan Eovaldi back by May 18, per Sport DFW. Eovaldi is having a great season in the Texas rotation, with a .261 ERA. The right-hander has appeared in seven games this season, and holds a 2-2 overall record. He is fighting off a groin injury.

Texas is also making some moves to help the rotation. The team recalled right-hand pitcher Grant Anderson from triple-A Round Rock to help out. Anderson posted a 2.08 ERA in Round Rock so far in 2024, with 8 games of work.

The Rangers certainly know how to navigate bad waters. The team won the World Series last season, and had to deal with injuries then in its march to the championship. Rangers fans are hoping that the team can keep kindling that magic to keep the club afloat in the American League until they get healthy. The Rangers have an important series going Saturday against the lowly Colorado Rockies. The Rangers already lost the first game in the series, but have a chance to get a few more wins.

The Rangers are in action Saturday against the Rockies. The first pitch is at 8:10 Eastern. Colorado is 10-28 on the season.
