Here’s the tentative starting rotation Bruce Bochy said on Friday the Giants would be using this season, per Henry Schulman:
1. Matt Cain (R)
2. Madison Bumgarner (L)
3. Tim Lincecum (R)
4. Barry Zito (L)
5. Ryan Vogelsong (R)
Bochy had previously announced that Cain would be getting the nod on opening day against the Dodgers, a decision long-assumed to be inevitable. Bochy indicated that this version of the rotation could be subject to change by the time the season begins.
If it does hold true, this would mean that Zito would be getting the start in the home opener April 5 against the Cardinals, when the Giants will be celebrating their World Series championship.
“It’s going to be exciting to be there. It’s going to be a great vibe there,” he said. “Pitching against the Cardinals is going to be great, coming off last year.”
