According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Mets reliever Taylor Buchholz, who missed most of the 2011 season dealing with depression and anxiety, cleared waivers on Monday afternoon and “is expected to join Nick Evans and Jason Pridie in declaring free agency.”

Buchholz appeared in 23 games for the Mets this season, boasting a respectable 3.12 earned run average with 26 strikeouts and seven walks over 26 innings pitched:

Mets general Manager Sandy Alderson said yesterday at the GM meetings in Milwaukee, according to Rubin, “It’s possible that any one or all three of those guys can come back in some capacity.”

However, as Rubin points out:

Assuming all three declare free agency as expected, the Mets’ 40-man roster would be at 31. The Mets need to add prospects by the end of the week in order to shield them from the Rule 5 draft at the winter meetings — while leaving room to sign free agents.”

Mets Rumors: Reyes, Closer, Murphy, Duda

The Mets were far from the favorite for Jose Reyes entering the offseason.  But if the Marlins offered Reyes six years and $90MM as a starting bid, Mets fans can forget about him coming back in the opinion of ESPN New York's Adam Rubin.  For months now, the impression has been that the Mets don't want to exceed four years for the shortstop.  They'll have to hope for...
