In what seemed like a series dominated by the Boston Red Sox pitching against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Sox continued their winning ways by taking two out three from Toronto. After dropping the first game of the series on Tuesday night 9-7, the Red Sox solid pitching quieted the Jays bats over the next two nights. The highlight of the series was the dominating starts of Clay Buchholz and Ryan Dempster, who  allowed zero and one runs respectively in their starts vs. the Jays. Buchholz struck out eight over seven innings allowing just two hits. Dempster was able to go six innings last night but got several key double plays to get out of multiple jams in the win. In already a small sample size, Mike Carp was one of the key contributors offensively in this series collecting three hits, two of which were via the homerun and driving in three runs. Another key contributor in this series was Mike Napoli who raked two long home runs in game two of the series both of which traveled 460 fee...

Rapid React (5/2): Buchholz Dominant Again

Another day, another strong outing from Clay Buchholz. After shutting down Toronto to the tune of 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 8 K/3 BB, Buchholz’s season ERA now sits at an incredible 1.01. I realize that there is no way he sustains that ERA and regression is imminent, but the real question is what kind of regression are we looking at?If you look at Buchholz’s PITCHf/x data, you’ll see...

Canadian Native Ryan Dempster Makes First Start in Toronto Against Team He ‘Grew Up Watching’ (Video)

Ryan Dempster has always had success pitching in his native Canada, but that all came at Olympic Stadium against the old Montreal Expos. He had never faced the only current Canadian team, the Toronto Blue Jays, north of the border until Thursday, when he made the start for Red Sox at Rogers Centre. NESN’s Jamie Erdahl caught up with the British Columbia native during Red Sox Gameday...

Clay Buchholz Commands, Changes Way To Success

Although Clay Buchholz had enjoyed his share of success heading into 2013, from a no-hitter to a 17-win season, one assumes the Red Sox were hoping for more. Buchholz was Baseball America‘s fourth-best prospect entering 2008 and appeared to be a top-of-the-rotation power arm capable of ace-level dominance. Instead, Buchholz has had one very good season — a 2010 with a 2.33 ERA...

Visually Comparing Clay Buchholz, 2012-2013

Greetings FanGraphs readers, I am Drew Sheppard, and if you recognize my name it is probably from the Yu Darvish pitch selection GIF that made the rounds last week. Over the coming months, it is my goal to use similar techniques to put a visual spin on some of the information FanGraphs has always provided, including but not limited to similar pitcher breakdowns. Today I will be...

Clay Buchholz is off to a fantastic start this season. How’s he been rewarded? Well, he’s been named American League Pitcher of the Month for April, but he’s also facing some serious allegations up in Toronto. Broadcaster Dirk Hayhurst, who is also the author of The Bullpen Gospels, took to Twitter on Wednesday night, and he accused Buchholz of doctoring the baseball. Hayhurst...

3 Stars of the game: Game 27

After a loss there is 1 person who you want to start the next game, Clay Buchholz. Luckily for the Red Sox that is the situation that unfolded today and Buchholz did not disappoint. Buchholz became the first 6 game winner in the Major Leagues this season after pitching an absolute gem tonight against Toronto going 7 innings allowing only 2 hits. The offense also provided a little...

Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell is upset by accusations pitcher Clay Buchholz was putting a foreign substance on the ball during Wednesday's victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Former major league pitcher Dirk Hayhurst, now a broadcast analyst for the Blue Jays, told Toronto radio station Sportsnet 590 The Fan on Thursday that Buchholz was ''absolutely''...

Ryan Dempster won his second straight start and the Boston Red Sox took advantage of a season-high 10 walks to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 on Thursday night. Dempster (2-2) allowed one run and four hits in six innings. The right-hander, who walked three and struck out four, retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced. Winless in his first four starts this season, Dempster posted...

Come on. You already knew whose side Kevin Millar would be on, right? Millar made his weekly appearance on WEEI’s Mut & Merloni on Friday, and one of the topics discussed was the recent allegations against Clay Buchholz. Toronto broadcasters Dirk Hayhurst and Jack Morris accused Buchholz of doctoring the baseball during his start against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, which prompted...

Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 5/2

After winning 10-1 last night, the Boston Red Sox look to take the series in the finale of a three-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I'm picking the Red Sox to win (-135) and taking the over (9 runs). First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. If you live in the Red Sox television market you can catch the game on NESN. If you...
