Clay Buchholz finally got some practice in again on Wednesday after straining his hamstring on February 12th. New Red Sox manager John Farrell seems to know exactly what to do with the pitcher, having formerly pitched in the Major Leagues and served time as the position coach for the Sox from '07-'10. According to him, Buchholz threw 30 pitches in the live BP, which is apparently the norm for a pitchers first outing of Spring Training. Farrell had this to say about Buchholz: “He came out of today feeling good about himself,” Farrell said. “He used all of his pitches and it was an impressive work day. The intensity level was good.”  Even though Spring Training has just begun and Buchholz has plenty of time to get healthy again, it is great to see that he is already making progress. Although he wasn't rushed back, a sense of urgency wouldn't hurt the team, especially coming off the season that they had in 2012. We'll keep an eye on Buchholz to see how he progresses.
