Major League Baseball and their umpires are being skewered this season for a bunch of botched calls and last night they actually got the call right, after home plate umpire Angel Hernandez initially made the incorrect call. But that didn’t sit well with Baltimore Orioles’ Buck Showalter who ended up being tossed for arguing. As you will see in the video from MLB.com, Buck begins rather calmly with Hernandez after the call is changed, and gradually gets fired up, leading to himself being tossed from the game. Once that happens, Showalter then attempts to eject the entire umpiring crew. For starters, let’s look at what led to Buck’s theatrics and see if he has somewhat of a point about what took place. The original call was incorrect. On replay, there is no question that Chris Davis’ bat clearly missed the knuckleball thrown by R.A. Dickey.
