Found November 13, 2012 on Oriole Post:
It was a two man race for the American League manager of the year as Bob Melvin of the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore’s own Buck Showalter were tabbed for the honor; however, only man could win. This evening, it was announced that Melvin was selected as Manager of the Year. In all honesty, both men could have easily won, but in the end, the voters must have found the job that Melvin did with his pesky, young Oakland team more impressive than what Showalter did. From the Baltimore Sun: The Orioles’ improbable run to the postseason wasn’t enough to earn Buck Showalter the American League Manager of the Year Award. Oakland A's manager Bob Melvin narrowly beat Showalter in a vote of 28 AL market Baseball Writers Association of America voters. The results were announced on Tuesday evening on MLB Network. Melvin, a former Orioles catcher, received 16 first-place votes and Showalter received 12 in the closest AL Manager of the Year vote since Showalter won in 2004...

Showalter loses out on Manager of the Year

Despite pulling a moribund franchise from the depths of a 15-year losing streak and coming within one game of the American League Championship series, despite reversing a 69-93 record to 93-69, despite putting together the best record in one-run and extra inning games in recent memory, apparently O’s skipper Buck Showalter did NOT do enough to win the American League Manager of...

My Picks For Manager of the Year: Davey Johnson And Buck Showalter

The Manager of the Year award will be announced this afternoon by the Baseball Writers Association of America. You don’t usually see managers of perennially good teams win the award because they are expected to win. The writers prefer rags-to-riches stories, but sometimes it is harder to win with a bullseye on your back. I agree with the consensus, which has Washington’s Davey...

Bob Melvin and Davey Johnson each won their second Manager of the Year award on Tuesday. Melvin won in a close race over Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter. Melvin earned 16 first-place votes and 12 second...

Athletics' Melvin, Nats' Johnson win top manager honors

The voting for Major League Baseball's Manager of the Year awards mirrored the seasons of the winning skippers. Washington's Davey Johnson cruised to a victory in National...

Bob Melvin Deserved AL Manager of Year For Adjusting on Fly With Rookies, Evolving Roster

There weren’t any expectations for the Athletics entering 2012. After trading their top three players –– Andrew Bailey, Trevor Cahill and Gio Gonzalez –– over the offseason for prospects, the organization appeared destined for a 100-loss season after going 74-88 in 2011. At one point, a losing record looked like a reality. On June 13, the Athletics were trailing the Rangers...

Bob Melvin Plans to Welcome Bartolo Colon Back to A’s Despite Suspension

The Athletics hold no ill will against Bartolo Colon. Despite the stain, Oakland skipper Bob Melvin said the club will embrace his return, according to the Washington Post. “He’s gone through his penalty,” Melvin...
