Paul Maholm, Ross Ohlendorf, Brian Bass, and D.J. Carrasco threw a total of nine ground ball outs between the four of them as they each pitched a hitless inning. Chris Jakubauskas followed up those four with a scoreless frame of his own in the 5th.At that point, the Pirates took out their starters, and it showed. Steven Jackson gave up a solo homer in the 6th inning to put the Yankees up 1-0. He then gave up two more runs, one of which was earned. However, even the earned run could have been avoided. Delwyn Young made a diving stop that was ruled an infield hit that probably should not have been all that difficult.
