New York Mets
Dillon Gee pitched a strong six innings, but the bullpen failed yet again in the Mets 5-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Dillon Gee went six strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six, walking three and hitting a batter. Gee didn’t seem to have his best command on the day, but he managed to get the anxious Dbacks hitters to swing at numerous poor pitches and relied on a few good defensive plays. Dillon’s ERA was only victimized by a Cody Ransom home-run. As long as Gee can pitch and induced weak contact, easy fly-ball outs and strikeouts he will be in good company.
Once Gee gave way, however the bullpen began its true struggle. Parnell pitched an inning and allowed an unearned run on an Ike Davis error. Tim Byrdak went one-third of an inning, striking out one, allowing a run and walking one. Jon Rauch came out for two-thirds of an inning, allowing three hits, a run and a strikeout to take the game from no decision to the Mets on the losing side.

In eight relief appearances Elvin Ramirez had a 1.38 ERA in 13 innings pitched. The 24 year old right-hander is coming back after missing a year with arm woes.

The New York Mets return home tonight coming off of a road trip that left a really bad taste in the mouths of both the club and fan base. After sweeping the Florida Marlins, the Mets were crushed 19-8 before bouncing back and taking the series from the Colorado Rockies. Just as it seemed the poor performances were behind them once again, they were swept by the reigning MLB cellar...
I like Chris Schwinden and think with patience he could be a back-end starter or AAAA backup for most teams. However if the Mets are going to try and stay relevant in the NL East and in the 2012 season they cannot continue to toss Chris out there every 5th day… at least not with the general quality of our other four starters. So is there a solution externally or internally...
Mets LF Jason Bay, who is eligible to come off the DL this week, is still a long way off from returning to the Mets lineup.
Mets manager Terry Collins said, "The other day his ribs were still pretty sore when he laughs or coughs." Collins further said that Bay will not come off the DL "for awhile."
Chris Young is scheduled to make a start in PSL on...
SNY analyst Bobby Ojeda came down HARD on the Mets new philosophy at the plate with regard to heir approach at the plate during tonight’s Mets pre-game show.
For those that missed it, Ojeda ripped into what he called “this business of taking so many pitches” that the organization has forced the players to adopt.
“SWING THE BATS!” he repeated throughout his respinse to...
In eleven save opportunities, the Mets bullpen now has five blown saves. That’s not a typo – Five blown saves to go with six saves for the season so far.
Every time that bullpen gate opens, no matter who emerges from it, the odds that they will protect any size lead is a little bit better than 50/50.
A revamped bullpen you say?
The Mets saw fit to expend 75% of their available...
Here at Mets360 we write about the team every day and we do it without access to the players. This has its advantages and disadvantages and it is silly to pretend otherwise. Having first-hand quotes gives stories a legitimacy that they would not have otherwise and frequently there is value to the insight given by players.
But we do not have to play favorites nor hope that player...
The New York Mets (14-13) defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks (14-14) by the score of 4-3 today. The Mets forced a rubber game tomorrow with the win today.
The Mets played well today. Johan Santana, who didn’t have his best stuff, pitched seven innings while allowing three runs and nine hits. He battled like always, and gave the Mets a quality start. The Mets gave Santana run support...
The Arizona Diamondbacks (13-13) have to feel pretty good about tonight’s game as fill-in starter Wade Miley takes the mound and he has yet to yield a run in two starts while the New York Mets (13-12) limp into Citi- Field having lost 3 straight and coming off of an 8-1 beating by the Astros.
First pitch is set for Friday, 7:10 pm ET at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.
This is a Mets blog, but also a baseball blog, and part of baseball is Mariano Rivera, the Yankees’ Hall of Fame closer. Mets fans remember Rivera because he snuffed out many games over the years, including Game 5 of the 2000 World Series.
When the ball left Mike Piazza’s bat with a crack I thought it had a chance, but like many before, because of that awesome cutter, Piazza...
The off season in some sports has, at times, adopted the moniker ‘silly season’. It’s that time of year when the dust kicks up from coast to coast, team names change, affiliations change, team locations change. While more prevalent in the minor league hockey world, the silly season affects minor league baseball as well.
This upcoming offseason may prove to be an interesting...
NEW YORK -- With just enough runs to support him, Johan Santana finally got his first win of 2012 as the New York Mets held off the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 Saturday before 30,253 at Citi Field. The two-time Cy Young winner, for whom the Mets had been shut out in four of his first five starts, took advantage of a four-run Mets outburst in the fourth inning as he improved to 1-2...
It’s a place that the Bisons haven’t been since early in the 2010 season, but after a 6-5 win over Syracuse last night they now find themselves alone in first place in the IL North for just the eighth time since becoming the New York Mets’ AAA affiliate.
However, no one has really been out to support this young group of talented ball players.
Sure, the average attendance is...
