The Mets lost to the Nationals tonight by a score of 6-4 at Citi Field. Matt Harvey started the game and was, of course, fantastic, pitching 7 innings of 1-run ball and striking out 11 Washington hitters. Ross Detwiler was pretty good as well for the Nationals, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) in 5 innings of work. The Mets struck first in the bottom of the fourth when David Wright scored on a throwing error by Ian Desmond. However, the Mets squandered a great chance to tack on more runs, as John Buck, Omar Quintanilla, and Matt Harvey failed to get the runners in from second and third following Desmond’s blunder. After Desmond broke up Harvey’s perfect game with a game-tying solo shot in the fifth, the Mets quickly took the lead once again in the bottom half of the inning on RBI hits from Marlon Byrd and Josh Satin. After Harvey finished off his night with a scoreless seventh, the Mets got some insurance with another RBI hit from Satin, and the game seemed well in hand. However, everyth...

Mets Wasting Matt Harvey

It happens. It just happens with more regularity with the New York Mets. Sometimes it is the offense that let’s Matt Harvey down; other times it is the bullpen. Either way, the Mets are wasting the best thing to happen to them in years. LYON: Part of the carnage. (AP) Last night it was a little bit of both, with the obvious villain the bullpen which gave up five runs in the last...

Mets flamethrower Matt Harvey will start for the National League on July 16 in Queens

Despite fanning 11 and only surrendering one run and three hits over seven innings, Mets flamethrower Matt Harvey received a no-decision in a 6-4 loss to the Washington Nationals on Friday night in New York City. Yanked after 109 pitches with a 4-1 lead, even the 24-year-old Harvey (7-1, 2.05 ERA) couldn’t direct the hapless Mets to a victory. With a 32-44 record and jockeying...

Matt Harvey Starts Important Series For Mets

The New York Mets return home from a 7-4 road trip to face the Washington Nationals in a three-game series, with Matt Harvey going against left-hander Ross Detwiler. The Mets are 5.5 games behind the Nationals in the standings, and four behind in the loss column. Yes, it sounds odd, perhaps premature to think, but a sweep could change the complexion of the NL East standings and maybe...

No. 33 Keeping Hope Alive In Flushing, Queens

There really is something special about going to Citi Field on a day when Matt Harvey pitches. If the Mets are in the midst of yet another miserable season, you’d never know it. Walking into Friday’s game, the excitement and buzz over what the main attraction was truly overwhelming. Families and friends all bustled towards the main gate, eager to be seated and ready for the game’s...

Mets planning to shut Harvey down?

The Mets are reportedly planning to shut down ace Matt Harvey because of a Stephen Strasburg-style innings cap. He has been their best pitcher this season.

Video of Ian Desmond's go-ahead double

"That might have been our biggest win of the year right there." (Davey Johnson, via Washington Post, 6/29/2013) Nationals 6, Mets 4: We'd like to take a moment to thank the Mets bullpen for not being Matt Harvey. Pigs fly, cats and dogs live in harmony, and the 2013 Washington Nationals come from behind to win. Is THIS the turning point? Befriend Nats...

Mets’ All-Star hopefuls reach final push

With the All Star game a little more than two weeks away, prospective Mets’ all-star hopefuls have two more weeks to showcase their skills for the Mid-Summer Classic, which, as you all should know, is being held at Citi Field. The last time the Mets hosted the All-Star game was back in 1964. Just how cool would it be if—even in this sub-satisfactory season—on July 16, when...

Game Preview: Nationals vs Mets

The Mets, fresh off of a successful road trip, come back home to the Nationals tonight. It feels like, at least recently, that the Mets fall flat in Colorado but Byrd helped reverse that by hitting a go ahead homer late in the game and making a key throw in the next half inning to keep the Mets in the lead. How rude of me. I forgot to wish you a HAPPY HARVEY DAY. Matt will be starting...

A Long Day, But Long Overdue

Many times, reality doesn't reach the hype. We've been spoiled by Matt Harvey, who seems to reach the hype every time, and has done so in a relatively short period of time. Zack Wheeler hasn't even reached Harvey's amount of service time, so to think that Wheeler was going to break through and be dominant and reach his hype after three starts is quite ridiculous....

Nationals 6, Mets 4

Ian Desmond doubled home the go-ahead run in the ninth inning and the Washington Nationals rallied late after a dominant Matt Harvey departed, overtaking the New York Mets 6-4 Friday night. Harvey struck out 11 and left with a 4-1 lead after seven innings. It was the latest gem for a pitcher who could start the All-Star game on the same Citi Field mound next month. Ryan Zimmerman...

Nationals-Mets Preview

The New York Mets will be putting their best on display in Friday night's opener of a three-game home set against the Washington Nationals. Matt Harvey will be on the mound and David Wright will be back in the lineup for New York while the Nationals will hope to continue their winning ways when Ross Detwiler starts against the Mets. The sensational Harvey (7-1, 2.05 ERA) will...

Davey Johnson On Zack Wheeler

Barbara Barker of Newsday caught up with Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson who had some nice things to say about Zack Wheeler, but also pointed out what the young right-hander’s main problem is. “You’ve got to like his arm,” Nationals manager Davey Johnson said. “He has a good fastball and breaking stuff. But it’s command. It’s always going to be command up...
