After last night’s 4-3 loss to the Royals, Terry Collins told reporters that Bobby Parnell has been prescribed muscle relaxers for his sore neck and that he would still be unavailable for Sunday’s game. His status remains unclear.
David Aardsma, who is the acting closer for now, has a blown save and a loss in two appearances thus far. On Saturday, Justin Maxwell crushed one of his fastballs for what ended up being the game-winning home run. The veteran reliever now has a 5.06 ERA in his last ten appearances for the Mets dating back to July 8. During that span he has allowed 16 baserunners and six runs in 10.2 innings.
Meanwhile, it’s unclear if Pedro Feliciano will be available for today’s game after appearing in back-to-back games in this series. Yesterday, Feliciano looked solid and pitched a 1-2-3 inning, prompting Collins to say afterward, that it was “very good to see the command of his stuff the second day, but I’m not sure I’ve got him tomorrow. ”
