Because of Miguel Cabrera’s limited mobility at third at first blush you would think the Red Sox would be bunting early and often on the Tigers’ third baseman. So why haven’t the Red Sox been doing so?
Take a look at where Cabrera has been setting up Sox manager John Farrell said.
“Against the guys who are bunting threats he has been damn near even with the mound’’ Farrell said. “He’s 45 feet from home plate in some cases. In that way we’re probably more willing to try to hit a ball by him than to bunt into what would be his own self-imposed shift.
“Plus we’re facing guys who are throwing mid-to-upper 90s. To tell guys go ahead and bunt the ball it’s not that easy.’’
