Found November 09, 2012 on Bay Sports Nut:
Congratulations to Giants’ catcher Buster Posey for earning a 2012 Silver Slugger Award. His .336 batting average landed him the National League batting title, as well. This Silver Slugger award is, presumed by many, just a prelude to winning the 2012 National League Most Valuable Player award; which is expected to be announced next week. Posey’s accomplishments this year are remarkable for a young catcher, whose first complete full season was just entered this year. He was promoted to the Giants’ full-time catcher in the middle of the 2010 season. Even more remarkable is the fact that Posey’s 2011 regular season was dramatically cut short when he suffered a broken leg injury in a violent play at the plate that May. Posey spent a year in rehab. His injury was serious enough to cause concern that he may not fulfill his total potential. The fact that he did earned him the 2012 Comeback Player award. Posey went into this season already with a World Series ring he helped earn in 2010. But last year’s injury abruptly ended his sophomore big-league season, and he had not yet recorded an entire full season as a Major League catcher. This year will not be Posey’s only career numbers year, it’s merely his first. He’s only 25 years old. This is the complete list of the 2012 National League Silver Slugger Award recipients. C: Buster Posey 1B: Adam LaRoche 2B: Aaron Hill 3B: Chase Headley SS: Ian Desmond OF: Andrew McCutchen OF: Jay Bruce OF: Ryan Braun P: Stephen Strasburg The post Buster Posey is a Silver Slugger in 2012 appeared first on Bay Area Sports Nut.

SF Giants Rumors: Teams Interested In Belt, Affeldt Looking for 3-Years, Another Posey Award

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com says (via Twitter) the San Francisco Giants have been receiving calls  from teams inquiring about Brandon Belt. They don’t seem inclined to trade Belt, and say their goals are to re-sign Angel Pagan, Marco Scutaro and try to retain Jeremy Affeldt.   Bob Nightengale of USA Today says (via Twitter) the Giants are confident they will be able to resign...

SF Giants Rumors: Pence Will Be Back, Wilson Likely Non-Tendered, Burriss and Hensley Update

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com says San Francisco Giants GM Brian Sabean can guarantee that Hunter Pence will be with the Giants in 2013. However, Sabean can’t make the same guarantee for Brian Wilson. “Pence is going to be coming back,” said Sabean. “We think there are some things he can do to fix what went wrong this year. We like the player. We made a big trade to get him...

SF Giants Rumors: Wilson Decision Looms, Romo Stat, Whiteside Gone, Posey Award, Cabrera Money

With the World Series win still fresh on most fans minds. It’s now time for the San Francisco Giants front office to start focusing on 2013.   It’s going to be a big decision for them to decide if Brian Wilson should be offered arbitration or non-tender him. Wilson made $8.5 million in 2012. The Giants could be considering a deal that doesn’t guarantee as much for 2013 but...

Baseball Prospectus Profiles Giants CF Prospect Gary Brown

Gary Brown is one of the Giants top prospects, and is the potential center fielder of the future. After destroying pitching in High A San Jose, he ran into a bit of a wall in AA Richmond.  This morning Baseball Prospectus has him as their prospect profile (for free!). It's a nice little glimpse into what has been going on with him if you haven't been following his...

Giants Fan Dies After Being Beaten During Celebration for Team’s World Series Win

San Francisco Giants fans got rowdy following their team’s World Series win over the Detroit Tigers, and at least one fan has lost his life in the aftermath. CBS San Francisco reports that 37-year-old Sean Moffitt has passed away, due to injuries he suffered during Giants fans’ celebration of last week’s world championship. Giants fans took to the streets following the decisive...

The Giants Are Farm Grown

The 2012 Giants were a farm-grown team, loaded with talent drafted and cultivated by the organization, and poised to be perennial playoff contenders. I’m a firm believer that a championship team cannot be purchased through free agency or assembled through mega-deal trades. Baseball is unique in that it is equally an individual performance sport as well as it’s a team sport. Chemistry...

It’s The Ultimate Reclamation Project

It’s the small moves that make a season and a team. I admit, when the Giants picked up Ryan Vogelsong, I thought it was to sell tickets in Fresno.  I was wrong. When the Giants found Pat Burrell on the scrap heap, I expected it to be a non-factor in anything.  Nope. Cody Ross?  It seemed like sacrificing a roster spot to stop a rival.  Well, not just. Marco Scutaro?  A fine...

Jeff Kent gets booted from Survivor, is a sore loser, mad at Barack Obama

I don't think I've seen an episode of Survivor since the days Elizabeth Hasselbeck wasn't a Hasselbeck.  That's been about 63 seasons ago and somehow the show is still around.  Evidently, former San Francisco Giants second basemen Jeff Kent was booted off the island last night and was none too pleased.  While you can watch the entire tribal council thingy here...

2013 MLB Offseason: NL West

We continue on the west coast this time around to take a look at the hotly contested National League West. The San Francisco Giants have won two World Series titles in the last three seasons, but they have hardly dominated. Each race has come down to the final couple of weeks in the last three years. As many as three teams have a very strong claim to the 2013 crown, so the Giants...
