The race for the Most Valuable Player is a lot like a singing contest. It doesn't really matter much how the song starts, but how it finishes. And while most agree that if the season were to end right now, a certain Mr. McCutchen of the Pirates would probably get the nod. The season is not over yet. With a little more than a month and a half to go, Buster Posey has more than enough time to give that center fielder a run for his money. And judging what Posey is doing since the second half started, it is going to be close. Of course, Posey is not the only MVP candidate on his own team. The Melkman has had a great season too and practically carried the Giants on his back the first half. Posey has overtaken Melky and now and leads him in wOBA, .402 to .389. Posey's current wOBA is sixth in the NL behind Votto, McCutchen, Braun, Ruis and Holliday. Votto will lose some steam because of his extended absence down the stretch, Ruis is also out and Holliday and Braun will lose out ...

Buster Posey and the Plate Appearance of the Season

Fast-forward to the eighth inning. Buster Posey is up. The bases are loaded, with one out. The Giants are down by one run. The game is essentially in Posey’s hands. The leverage index (LI) of the situation is 7.59, the second-highest it’s been for any Giants batter at any point this season. And Rafael Betancourt, who has held right-handed hitters to a .196 wOBA this season, is...

SF Giants Rumors: Series Win, Posey, Pence and Cabrera

The San Francisco Giants were able to get the win Sunday to secure the series win against the Rockies. The G-men have won 7 of their last 10 games. Buster Posey (.332 AVG ) had the biggest at bat of the game. Which resulted in a 10 pitch battle, and a sacrifice fly that tied the game in the bottom of the 8th inning. Hunter Pence followed that up with his first homer in a Giants...

DeLorean boat cruises around McCovey Cove

The most interesting thing for Giants fans during Friday Night’s 3-0 loss to the lowly Rockies was a bizarre watercraft outside the stadium in McCovey Cove. A man with a boat/hovercraft in the shape of the DeLorean from the Back to the Future movies raced around McCovey cove in the fourth inning of the game. Unfortunately, the driver lost control of the craft and crashed into some rocks.

Giants honor Cain's perfect game with plaque

A plaque commemorating Matt Cain's perfect game has been placed by the San Francisco Giants on a walkway outside the right field wall at AT&T Park. Cain, the first Giants pitcher to throw a perfect game, was honored on Friday night in a pair of ceremonies before San Francisco hosted the Colorado Rockies. The Giants brought in nearly two dozen members of Cain's family...

Giants 9, Rockies 3

Buster Posey hit a home run and drove in two runs to back Matt Cain's seven solid innings and the San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 9-3 Saturday. Cain (11-5) gave up two runs on seven hits in 7 1-3 innings, and added an RBI single, to win for the first time since July 15. He walked one and struck out six. Angel Pagan hit a two-run triple, and Marco Scutaro, Hunter...

Pence's three-run home helps Giants win

SAN FRANCISCO -- Hunter Pence was acquired just before the trade deadline to bolster the San Francisco Giants' low-scoring offense at home. After going hitless in his first four at-bats on Sunday, he became the hero with one swing. Pence hit a three-run home run to left in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 9-6 on Sunday afternoon....

DeLorean hovercraft visits McCovey Cove during Giants game (Video)

To paraphrase Marty McFly from Back to the Future: "You made a hovercraft out of a DeLorean?" Well, a man named Matthew Riese did, with some funding from Kickstarter, and it was on display in McCovey cove during Friday night's San Francisco Giants baseball game at AT&T Park against the Colorado Rockies Seeing is believing, and based on this footage, the...

Hunter Pence hit a three-run homer during a five-run rally in the eighth inning that lifted the San Francisco Giants over the Colorado Rockies 9-6 on Sunday. Buster Posey's sacrifice fly in the eighth tied it. Melky Cabrera, who had an RBI single in the comeback, drove in three runs. Brandon Belt doubled twice and went 4 for 4 for the Giants. Matt Belisle (3-4) took the loss...

BP Unfiltered: Jose Goes Back to the Future by Larry Granillo

During Friday's Rockies/Giants game in San Francisco, a rather memorable visitor appeared in McCovey Cove: Your browser does not support iframes. That's right. A Delorean hovercraft was out making waves during Tim Lincecum's start Friday night. Let's just say fans at the game that night aren't going to forget it anytime soon. Monday afternoon, these tweets showed...

Awesome DeLorean "Boat" at the San Francisco Giants game

Either James Bond or Marty McFly was navigating through McCovey Cove outside at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Friday.

Giants Defeat Rockies, 9-3

The Giants, at least for now, have regained sole possession of first place, thanks to — well, everybody… Matt Cain, in the nine-game stretch between his perfect game and today’s start: 57.1 innings, 46 K, 16 BB, 10 HR, 4.40 ERA. He hadn’t been awful. He hadn’t even been bad, really, by normal standards. By Cain standards, of course, he’d been a disappointment. The glaring...

Nationals-Giants Preview

Striving to hold their respective division leads, the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals can both use any wins they can get. The Giants might get a boost Monday with All-Star third baseman Pablo Sandoval set to come off the disabled list before the opener of a three-game set against the visiting Nationals. San Francisco (63-52) heads into this series holding a one-game...
