The Minnesota Twins have been lauded for the talent in their minor league system. It turns out they may have the best prospect in all of baseball.
According to its midseason prospect update, Baseball America ranks Twins minor leaguer Byron Buxton as the No. 1 prospect. Not far behind him is fellow Twins prospect Miguel Sano, who lands at No. 3 on the list.
Minnesota took Buxton with the No. 2 overall pick in last year's draft, and he's putting up impressive numbers in his first full minor league season. Entering Monday, Buxton is batting .364 with a home run and seven RBI in his first 10 games with High-A Fort Myers after his promotion late last month. Prior to that, he hit .341 with eight homers, 55 RBI and 32 stolen bases in 68 games for Low-A Cedar Rapids.
Here's what Baseball America had to say about the 19-year-old Buxton: "No. 1 talent in last year's draft is even better than expected with power, speed, defense and an extremely advanced hitting approach."
