The Minnesota Twins have been lauded for the talent in their minor league system. It turns out they may have the best prospect in all of baseball. According to its midseason prospect update, Baseball America ranks Twins minor leaguer Byron Buxton as the No. 1 prospect. Not far behind him is fellow Twins prospect Miguel Sano, who lands at No. 3 on the list. Minnesota took Buxton with the No. 2 overall pick in last year's draft, and he's putting up impressive numbers in his first full minor league season. Entering Monday, Buxton is batting .364 with a home run and seven RBI in his first 10 games with High-A Fort Myers after his promotion late last month. Prior to that, he hit .341 with eight homers, 55 RBI and 32 stolen bases in 68 games for Low-A Cedar Rapids. Here's what Baseball America had to say about the 19-year-old Buxton: "No. 1 talent in last year's draft is even better than expected with power, speed, defense and an extremely advanced hitting approach." Before the 2013 season began, Baseball America had Buxton as the No. 10 overall prospect in baseball. The 20-year-old Sano was ranked as the No. 9 prospect prior to the season but has shot up to No. 3 after a strong start with Fort Myers that earned him a promotion to Double-A New Britain. In 56 games with the Miracle, Sano hit .330 with 16 homers and 48 RBI. He's struggled a bit since moving up to Double-A, batting just .205 in 25 games prior to Monday. But he has hit six homers and driven in 17 runs during that span. Here's Baseball America's take on Sano: "Best power in the minors, one of the best arms. Hitting ability has taken a step forward." The only other Twins prospect to crack the Top 50 list is starting pitcher Alex Meyer, who is No. 32. He's made just 11 starts for New Britain due to an injury, but was 3-3 with a 3.69 ERA. The 6-foot-9, 220-pound right-hander was acquired this past offseason from Washington in exchange for outfielder Denard Span. Baseball America on Meyer: "His acquisition helped fill Twins' most desperate neednearly big league-ready power pitching." While the Twins might be on their way to a third straight losing season, the future appears bright with two of the top prospects on the horizon. Follow Tyler Mason on Twitter
