Found June 27, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
Well, how about that? This was an excellent team effort for the win tonight in Colorado and it wrapped up an excellent road trip for our New York Mets. Whether these games will matter down the line or not, it’s nice to see our team banding together and playing some decent baseball for an extended period of time. It was Jeremy Hefner on the mound tonight — and surprise, surprise…he was effective. Hefner allowed two runs, only one earned, over six innings off five hits and a walk. He struck out three in what was, yet again, another quality effort from Hef-man. This was Hefner’s sixth quality start in his last seven outings. The Rockies tagged Hefner for the two runs in the bottom of the second, off a sacrifice fly and a ground out — where Josh Satin made an error. The Mets wouldn’t get on the board until the top of the fifth inning, where they loaded the bases with no out. Anthony Recker and Justin Hefner, consecutively, busted down the line to avoid grounding into double plays, and a...

Culinary all-stars set to shine at 2013 MLB All-Star game

NEW YORK - The All-Star Game serves as a crown jewel showcase for baseball’s best talent as well as the host ballpark. For Citi Field, the Mets’ home since 2009 and the site of this year’s Midsummer Classic on July 16, the diverse and delicious food at the park represents a highlight of any in-game experience. Even if the baseball isn’t always at its best in Queens (ahem...

David Wright To Rest Against Rockies

It wasn’t as if David Wright was going to challenge Cal Ripken in the first place. Wright will be out of the New York Mets’ lineup tonight in Colorado for their make up game against the Rockies. There was speculation Wright might lobby manager Terry Collins to keep him in the lineup. Despite being on a tear lately, Wright knew he needed a night off and being the DH in Chicago...

Marcum Hurls Eight Scoreless In Mets 3-0 Win

Wow, Shaun Marcum must be feeling like the weight of the world has been lifted off his shoulders. The righthander tossed eight scoreless innings as the Mets beat the White Sox by the score of 3-0 tonight at U.S. Cellular Field. Marcum was solid all night long allowing just four hits and walking two with two strikeouts. He had some great defense behind him including some spectacular...

Collins Says Quintanilla Will Remain Starter At SS When Tejada Comes Back

The question has been asked and answered… Mets manager Terry Collins spoke to reporters today and said that Ruben Tejada will have to earn back his starting shortstop job when he returns from the disabled list. Unless he can do that, Omar Quintanilla has earned the right to keep the job, Collins said. “Based on what we’ve seen right now, Ruben’s gotta earn it back,” Collins...

Ruben Tejada Ready To Begin A Rehab Assignment

Shortstop Ruben Tejada is ready to begin a rehab assignment later this week for the GCL Mets, according to Terry Collins. Collins said Tejada will work his way up to Triple-A Las Vegas before completing his rehab and being activated. Tejada was placed on the DL on May 30 with a right quadriceps strain suffered while reaching for a foul popup. The Mets manager punted a question asking...

Mets’ All-Star hopefuls reach final push

With the All Star game a little more than two weeks away, prospective Mets’ all-star hopefuls have two more weeks to showcase their skills for the Mid-Summer Classic, which, as you all should know, is being held at Citi Field. The last time the Mets hosted the All-Star game was back in 1964. Just how cool would it be if—even in this sub-satisfactory season—on July 16, when...

It’s Shaun Marcum Day!

Nope, I couldn’t write the headline with a straight face. I tried, but Shaun Marcum’s start in his first year with the New York Mets is reaching historic proportions. To the point of being humorous if it weren’t so aggravating. Marcum, who has had several strong relief performances, but generally has pitched in bad luck and an inability to avoid the big inning, will be going...

Mets 3, Rockies 2

Marlon Byrd hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning and threw out a runner from right field in the ninth to lead the New York Mets past the Colorado Rockies 3-2 on Thursday in a makeup game for the one that was snowed out on April 17. With the Mets trailing 2-1 and a runner on, Byrd drove a fastball from reliever Matt Belisle (4-5) into the left-center seats. That was about the...

You Mad, Bro? “One Night Stand In Colorado” Edition

From SB Nation’s “Purple Row” Blog: “Please let’s win this game” “Welp.” “Yep, EY2 has offically won the game for the Mets already.” “No David Wright! Huzzah! ” “2 pitches in and the Mets announcer have already called it Mile High Stadium” “Time zone fail. Thought this game started at 5:10 my time, missed the top of the 1st.” “So did the mets...

Collins Will Adjust Rotation If Harvey Starts All Star Game

Pitching coach Dan Warthen told Mike Puma of the New York Post that he would adjust the rotation to allow Matt Harvey to start the All Star Game if Bruce Bochy gives him the nod. “That is 20 days away, a lot could change,” Collins said, referring to postponements that could alter the rotation. “But if he gets picked to start the game, I would think we would adjust it.” All...

The Matt Harvey Express Rolls Over the Phillies

If the opponents in the National league east have not become impressed with Matt Harvey, the Philadelphia Phillies have. David Wright had a up close and personal view of the Philly hitters as the Mets ace (Yes I said since earlier this season, he is the ace) made believers of the Phillies. Wright knew it was going to be a good day. He saw the surprise on Jimmy Rollins’ face after...
