MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins uber prospect Byron Buxton headlines seven of the organization's minor leaguers who will take part in the Arizona Fall League. Buxton will be joined by pitchers Alex Meyer, Trevor May, A.J. Achter and Zach Jones, as well as infielders Max Kepler and Eddie Rosario. The 19-year-old Buxton has climbed quickly up the prospect rankings this year, his first full season since the Twins drafted him No. 2 overall in 2012. Entering Tuesday, Buxton was batting .328 with four home runs, 20 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 49 games for High-A Fort Myers. He hit .341 with eight homers, 55 RBI and 32 steals this season for Low-A Cedar Rapids before his promotion. Meyer and May were both acquired this past offseason in trades -- Meyer from Washington in exchange for outfielder Denard Span, and May from the Phillies along with Vance Worley for center fielder Ben Revere. The 23-year-old May is 9-9 with a 4.48 ERA in 26 starts for Double-A New Britain this year, while Meyer has been limited by injuries and has made just 12 starts (4-3, 3.41 ERA) for New Britain. On Tuesday, Rosario was named the Eastern League Player of the Week after batting .433 for New Britain. In 64 games with the Rock Cats since a midseason call-up, the 21-year-old second baseman has hit .291 with 34 RBI and 18 doubles. The Arizona Fall League begins on Oct. 8 and runs through Nov. 16. Twins Tuesday: Chris Colabello named Independent League MVP

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota's Chris Colabello awoke Tuesday morning to a flurry of congratulatory text messages on his phone. What he was being congratulated for, he wasn't quite sure. That is, until he saw one text that read, "Congrats on the MVP." Even then, Colabello was a bit stunned as the news didn't initially sink in. Finally, though, he learned that he...

Twins Wednesday: Minnesota establishes dubious team mark

MINNEAPOLIS -- The record was going to be broken, whether the Minnesota Twins wanted it to happen or not. And with a Chris Colabello strikeout in the bottom of the fifth inning, a new mark was set. Colabello's strikeout was the 1,122nd time a Minnesota batter was fanned this season, the most in a single season in Twins history. The old record of 1,121 strikeouts was set back...

Willingham claimed off waivers, source says

Josh Willingham was claimed off trade waivers by at least one other team a major-league source told the Star Tribune on Wednesday giving the Twins until noon Friday to work out a trade or pull him back. The source did not reveal which team has been awarded the waiver claim but only one team has the right to negotiate a trade for the 34-year-old slugger. If more than one team claimed...

Twins still have no timetable for Joe Mauer's return

As of yesterday, Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer told manager Ron Gardenhire that he was feeling better. However, the skipper told reporters that the team still doesn't have a timetable for Mauer's return, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. "We just have to wait and see," Gardenhire said. "I don't have a timetable. He came in today and says...

Kevin Correia's 118-pitch scoreless start squandered by bullpen

MINNEAPOLIS -- Last time out against the Royals, Twins starter Kevin Correia lasted just two innings. The right-hander was knocked around on Aug. 5 in a rout at the hand of Kansas City in one of his shortest outings of the year. Three weeks later, Correia was tasked with matching Royals starter James Shields for much of the game. He did just that, pitching seven scoreless innings...

Twins whiff their way to record, lose again

With 31 games to go, the Minnesota Twins have already set a team record for strikeouts in a season. Yes, the whole year for this team has been one big swing and a miss. Salvador Perez homered twice for Kansas City, had four hits and sent a message to Twins starter Andrew Albers after a high-and-inside fastball, leading the Royals to an 8-1 victory on Wednesday night. Danny Duffy...

Correia's effort not enough in 6-1 loss to KC

Minnesota starter Kevin Correia was dominant through seven innings. But the Twins bullpen struggled in the eighth and lost control of the game. After Correia held Kansas City scoreless, the Royals scored five runs off relievers Jared Burton (2-8) and Caleb Thielbar in the eighth and beat the Twins 6-1 on Tuesday night. Burton leads the Twins with 22 holds this season, but entered...

Joe Mauer's absence leaving Twins with key lineup hole

MINNEAPOLIS -- When fans start filing into Target Field on Tuesday night, his name will stretch across more backs than any other. A local Catholic priest used him as an example of a modern-day hero in a homily about sainthood Sunday. He remains a central draw despite what's looking more and more like his team's third consecutive losing season. When it comes to endearment...

MLB Lineups Advice for Daily Fantasy Baseball – DraftStreet Deals (8/27)

Kevin Correia will be on the bump tonight at Target Field for the Twins. This will be the veteran right-hander’s fifth battle with Kansas City this season. His work over the first four has definitely been less than stellar. Correia has posted a 7.08 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and a meager 4.0 K/9 against the Royals [...]
