The Minnesota Twins have added relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar (Little Falls 2007) to their current 40-man roster. Thielbar was one of eight players the Twins recalled on November 20. Read the full release from the Twins here.
Thielbar, 25, is the first player from the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs organization to make a Major League Baseball roster. Thielbar pitched for the franchise in 2007 when it was known as the Little Falls Miners. He was a 2007 New York Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game selection and struck out 52 batters in 52 innings pitched.

Thielbar is one of 10 players on Major League rosters that have played for a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League organization. The current list can be found here.
The Northfield, Minn., native mostly recently competed in the prestigious Arizona Fall League with the Peoria Javelinas. Peoria won the AFL championship with a roster that included seven Minnesota farm hands as well as pitcher Logan Darnell (Amsterdam 2008) and infielder Stefen Romero (Glens Falls 2008). Thielbar appeared in 11 games and struck out 12 batters in 13.0 innings. He fanned multiple batters in two of his last three outings of the fall and recorded three multiple-strikeout games.
Thielbar raced through the Twins minor-league system in 2012 as he pitched at three different levels from Advanced-A through Triple-A. The South Dakota State University graduate began 2012 in the Twins minor league spring training camp. On March 31, he was activated on Minnesota’s Major League Spring Training roster. On the same day, he pitched one inning of relief for the Twins against in the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The southpaw officially opened the 2012 season with the Florida State League’s Fort Myers Miracle. Thielbar quieted opponents’ bats over seven appearances in which he did not allow an earned run. He struck out 16, walked two and converted one save in 12.1 innings. The 25-year-old was promoted to Double-A New Britain on April 30, less than four weeks into the season. He walked only three in 16 appearances and carved out a 2-0 record with four saves and a 1.80 earned run average. Thielbar struck out 26 batters in 25 innings and held Double-A hitters to a .180 batting average.
The Little Falls product spent less than two months in New Britain and earned a promotion to Triple-A Rochester in mid-June. Thielbar logged 25 appearances for Minnesota’s top affiliate in the International League. He went 3-1 with one save and a 3.57 earned run average in his first Triple-A campaign. The six-foot southpaw fanned 32 and walked 16 in 40.1 innings pitched.
Caleb began his professional career in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system in 2009. He was an 18th-round pick (556th overall) of the Brewers in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He spent two years in the Brewers system working primarily as a reliever. Following a break-up with the Brewers in 2011, Thielbar was tapped by the independent St. Paul Saints of the American Association. Thielbar pitched in 43 games for the Saints and struck out 62 batters in 49.2 innings. He went 3-3 with a 2.54 earned run average and walked just 15 men. In August of 2011, Thielbar became the first St. Paul Saint to be signed by the Minnesota Twins.

Twins Rumors: Denard Span Trade ‘Coming’
The Minnesota Twins are expected to have an “active” winter
meetings next week in Nashville, and there’s belief that a trade of center
fielder Denard Span “is coming,” reports 1500 ESPN.
The same source said of next week's winter meetings in
Nashville: "Look for an active meetings." The belief is a trade of

Nationals Steal Denard Span From Twins
Another day, another NL East team solves their center field problem. Yesterday, the Braves spent $75 million to sign B.J. Upton to a contract that is perfectly fair and should provide them with a quality player going forward. Today, the Nationals spent $21 million — and, to be fair, a solid pitching prospect — and got a similarly valuable player in Denard Span. Advantage,...
Twins may bring back Francisco Liriano on one year deal
The Minnesota Twins are desperately in need of starting pitchers. Recently the Twins have engaged Francisco Liriano about a return to the team. Lirano was traded from the Twins to the Chicago White Sox midway though last season.
Liriano, 29, finished last season with a 5.34 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.
The Twins have had Liriano on their roster for each of his seven big league seasons. After...
Twins ship Span to Nationals for young arm
MINNEAPOLIS Outfielder Denard Span had been rumored several times as a possible trading chip for the Minnesota Twins. On Thursday, the club finally dealt him.
The Twins traded Span to the Washington Nationals in exchange for 22-year-old right-handed pitching prospect Alex Meyer. A first-round pick of the Nationals in 2011, Meyer reached High-A Potomac last season. Between two different...
Nationals Acquire Denard Span. This is a Big Deal
After years of trying to get Denard Span off the Twins, the Nationals have finally got their man. My first thoughts:
Span give the Nats a legitimate leadoff hitter and lets them put Jayson Werth lower in the lineup.
He finally gives them a real centerfielder. This will allow them to move Bryce Harper to left where he belongs producing an outfield of Harper-Span-Werth that rivals...
Nationals acquire OF Span from Twins
Minnesota Twins outfielder Denard Span was traded to the Washington Nationals on Thursday for pitching prospect Alex Meyer. Span, a five-year veteran who has spent his career with the Twins, hit .283 last season with four homers, 41 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. He is a .284 career hitter who has had his last two seasons cut short by injuries. He is expected to take over center...

The Washington Nationals have added an outfielder. Denard Span
The Nats acquired Denard Span from the Minnesota Twins. In exchange, the Twins will receive pitcher Alex Meyer.
Now, the Nats have a lead off hitter and a center fielder they have been coveting. He also has a very friendly deal, with $4...
The Twins new direction
Yesterday, the course of the Twins’ offseason was set. The worst kept secret in the Twins organization (to the point that I don’t believe it was even a secret) was that Denard Span was going to be traded. It was also apparent that the Twins needed to improve their rotation. Terry Ryan and the rest of the of the front office had stated that they would seek to add three starting...
Red Sox Set Eyes On Mauer
By SBRForum.com
One of the biggest stories coming out of the offseason antics of MLB teams has been what the Boston Red Sox will do to pull out of the nose dive they have been in for the past few years. They finished with their worst record since 1965 last season and need to do something to get back into the thick of things. With the rumor that they have set their sights on Minnesota...
Video of that time Denard Span hit his mom with a foul ball
Up above, video (via MLB.com) of that time back in 2010 when Denard Span hit his mom with a foul ball during a Spring Training game.
And so, Mike Rizzo finally got that leadoff hitter/center fielder he's been pining for all this time.
Washington Nationals trade Alex Meyer to the Twins for Keiunta Denard Span.
