The Cardinal Nation blog:
Weekly St. Louis Cardinals-focused chat on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines.
Late Friday afternoon, I joined Ken Miller and Jim Brinson on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines in our weekly series to discuss the St. Louis Cardinals, “Cardinal Talk.”
As usual, we focused on the National League Central, though this time, the two survivors are competing in the Division Series. We of course discussed the Cardinals’ win in Game 1, their Game 2 loss and looked ahead to the matchups in Games 3 and 4 in Pittsburgh on Sunday and Monday.
Cardinals followers in central Iowa can again catch St. Louis Cardinals radio broadcasts on KXnO as well as my regular segment each week throughout the season, either over the air or via streaming. Or, if you miss it live, you can always catch the replay right here at The Cardinal Nation blog.

Carlos Beltran’s three-run homer sparked a seven-run third inning that gave the St. Louis Cardinals an early lead of Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium. Beltran’s homer of 443 feet into the second deck off an A.J. Burnett pitch
Yes, I know that hindsight is 20/20 and everyone questions a manager after things go wrong, but when Mike Matheny announced that Lance Lynn would start game 2 of the NLDS earlier this week, my first thought was, why Lance Lynn?
Why not Shelby Miller or Joe Kelly or even Michael Wacha?
Joe Kelly would seem to be the logical choice, given that he was the Cardinals best starter in...
ST. LOUIS (AP) The St. Louis Cardinals chose Michael Wacha over fellow rookie Shelby Miller to start a potential Game 4 of the NL Division Series.
Miller led major league rookies with 15 wins but Wacha (4-1, 2.78) is fresher and gets the nod Sunday against Pittsburgh's Charlie Morton (7-4, 3.26). Manager Mike Matheny said it was hard to ignore Wacha's near no-hitter against...

The St. Louis Cardinals eliminated most of the drama from their first game of the 2013 playoffs with a seven-run third inning Thursday on their way to a 9-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, but the more relaxed atmosphere at Busch Stadium was significant.
The crowd at the Pirates’ home ballpark, PNC Park, would have likely been muted if the Cardinals had a similar inning on the...
Carlos Beltran still takes endless crap from New York Mets fans for taking a called third strike with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth of Game 7 of the NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals in 2006, but to the rest of baseball fans, he’s going down as the […]
St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny and Game 3 starter Joe Kelly spoke on Saturday.
The St Louis Cardinals used a 7 run inning and solid pitching to rout the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-1 in game one of the NL Division Series. Carlos Beltran‘s three-run homer sparked a seven-run third inning and the St. Louis Cardinals got seven strong innings from Adam Wainwright to open a commanding 7-0 in the third.
Beltran has 15 home runs, 10 doubles and 28 RBIs in 35 postseason...
The St Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-1 in Game 1 of their NLDS matchup to take a 1-0 series lead.
The Pirates really had no chance in this one. Adam Wainwright game out of the gates blazing, and set down the first 11 Pittsburgh hitters in order. Meanwhile, AJ Burnett was melting down on the hill for the Pirates. He allowed three baserunners over the first two...
The St. Louis Cardinals came through an extremely tough NL Central battle to claim the best record in the National League. The Pittsburgh Pirates couldn't quite win that battle, but they did pull away from the Reds late on to seize home field advantage in the wild card game, then finished off Cincinnati earlier this week in a raucous PNC Park. The Pirates are playing in their...
