Lance Lynn struck out a career-high 12 to stay tied for the major league lead in wins and Carlos Beltran hit his NL-best 19th home run Wednesday night, sending the St. Louis Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the White Sox that ended Chicago's eight-game road winning streak. Paul Konerko grounded into a game-ending double play with runners on first and third against Jason Motte. Beltran homered in the third inning off Jake Peavy (6-2) and had three of the four hits for the Cardinals, who have scored only seven runs in the last five games and totaled a single run for the third straight game. They've won just five of 14. Lynn (10-2) allowed three hits in 7 1-3 innings and joined Mets knuckleballer R.A. Dickey as the only 10-game winners in the majors. Dickey threw a one-hitter at Tampa Bay earlier in the night. The 25-year-old Cardinals right-hander, who replaced injured Chris Carpenter in the rotation and is in his first full big league season, topped his previous career bes...

Cardinals lacking swagger as losses mount

ST. LOUIS Cardinals manager Mike Matheny could see obvious differences between the surging first-place Chicago White Sox and his slumping squad Tuesday night at Busch Stadium. "You could see one team with a lot of confidence and the way they walk onto the field and the way they play the game and I think you're seeing a team on the other field that's not so much,"...

The White Sox’s Biggest Surprise

Surprising performances have fueled the Chicago White Sox’s rise to the top of the division. Adam Dunn — who looked finished last season — is off to one of the best starts of his career, Jake Peavy is healthy for the first time in years and AJ Pierzynski has already clubbed eleven home runs. And while those performances were unexpected, there’s another player on the White...

Matheny blames himself for team's slump

The Cardinals lost for the third time in four interleague games and for the ninth time in their last 13 games overall when they fell to the Chicago White Sox 6-1 Tuesday night. The starting pitching was excellent with right-hander Adam Wainwright giving up only two runs, both in the second, which was marked by two Cardinals misplays in the field. But relievers Marc Rzepczynski,...

Cardinals outduel White Sox 1-0

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Lance Lynn struck out a career-high 12 to stay tied for the major league lead in wins and Carlos Beltran hit his NL-best 19th home run Wednesday night, sending the St. Louis Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the White Sox that ended Chicago's eight-game road winning streak. Beltran homered in the third inning off Jake Peavy (6-2) and had three of the four hits...

After win, Quintana could get another start for White Sox

Southpaw Jose Quintana held up his part of the bargain. Well, at least he continued to give Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura some serious thinking to do. The rookie left-hander went 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in the White Sox's 6-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing one run on 10 hits and no walks while fanning four. The outing lowered Quintana's season ERA...

ChiSox slugger Dunn scratched prior to Cards game

White Sox slugger Adam Dunn has been scratched from Chicago's lineup for Wednesday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals because of a sprained right ankle. Dunn is dealing with only a minor sprain and was removed shortly after the team took the field for batting practice. Dayan Viciedo replaced Dunn, one off the major league leaders with 21 homers. Viciedo was batting...

Freese leads Cardinals past White Sox

David Freese had a good session during batting practice before Thursday night's game. The work paid off when it counted. Freese homered, doubled and drove in three runs, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox. ''I had the best BP I've had in a while,'' Freese said. ''It's about trying not to do too much. Sometimes...

Men's Journal poll of MLB players: Guillen not respected; A.J. Pierzynski is hated, and Joba is the most overrated

Men's Journal's July issue, on stands today, includes a SI like poll of MLB players. Most hated player in baseball: A.J. Pierzynski followed by Arod and Nick Swisher. "(Pierzynski) likes to talk a... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~

Rotation, bullpen combine to pull Cardinals out of slump

After manager Mike Matheny challenged his team to play with the urgency that "the sky is falling," the St. Louis Cardinals put together a modest two-game winning streak. Their 1-0 and 5-3 victories over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, had a lot to do with starting pitching. Right-hander Lance Lynn worked 7 1/3 innings, fanning 12 on Wednesday...

Freese leads Cardinals to winning Sox series

The St. Louis Cardinals took their interleague home series over the Chicago White Sox two games to one with a Thursday night win.

Worth Repeating?

Last year, the St. Louis Cardinals followed a long and winding path that led them to one of the greatest comebacks in Major League history and eventually a World Series victory. It was a bizarre year. It was plagued with injuries and upsets. More than anything, it was a season that could never be repeated. At least that’s what I thought at the beginning of this baseball season...

Mitch Glasser Drafted is reporting that the Chicago White Sox (awesome) drafted Jewish ball player Mitch Glasser in the 39th round. Cardinals can’t turn hits to runs in Sox loss

The St. Louis Cardinals’ home interleague series opener went to the Chicago White Sox Tuesday night.

White Sox-Cardinals Preview

(AP) -- Carlos Beltran and Adam Dunn are enjoying huge comeback seasons for their respective teams. These sluggers are among baseball's home run leaders and will meet Tuesday night as Dunn's Chicago White Sox look for an eighth straight road win in the opener of a three-game set against Beltran's St. Louis Cardinals. Beltran leads the NL with 18 homers while Dunn has...
