The St. Louis Cardinals have added veteran infielder Ronny Cedeno. Cedeno, who will turn 30 in a few days, spent last season with the New York Mets.
In St. Louis, Cedeno will occupy a bench spot. His addition will provide insurance in the event that Rafael Furcal suffers another injury. Furcal appeared in 121 games last season for the Cardinals, his most since 2009.
With the Mets the versatile Cedeno compiled a .259/.332/.410 line over 186 plate appearances. While Cedeno has primarily seen action at short-stop he also has experience at second base. Financial details of his deal have not been announced.
