Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman will be activated for Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Berkman avoids a minor-league rehab assignment and joined the team for Friday's game in Cincinnati. The switch-hitter is working his way back from right-knee surgery, and hasn't played since May 19. Berkman talked his way out of going to the minors, and the team thought he was ready after seeing him work out. "The knee is not an issue," Berkman told MLB.com, on Thursday. "It wouldn't be to go down there and see if the knee can hold up under the duress of a live-game situation. I'd rather work my way back in at this level, and I feel like there's the personnel for me to be able to do that." Injuries have limited Berkman to 13 games this season. He's batting .333 with eight runs scored and four RBIs.
