Found November 23, 2013 on Cardinals Fan in Cubs Land:
After a couple of days of talking, the Cardinals and Angels finally agreed to a trade yesterday sending David Freese and Fernando Salas to the Angels for Peter Bourjos and prospect Randal Grichuk. When I first heard the news, I wasn't too thrilled with the idea.  First, Freese, who hits lefties pretty well, could provide the Cardinals with a platoon option for Kolten Wong.  Second, what do the Cardinals need with another outfielder? However, the more I looked into Bourjos' stats, the more I liked him.  He is generally considered one of the best center fielders in baseball.  Per Fangraphs, his 20.2 UZR/150 since 2010 is the highest in all of baseball during that time.In addition, his platoon splits do not scream part-time player (like Freese's do).  For his career, he has a .706 OPS against lefties and a .703 OPS against righties.  You can't get much closer than that. Granted, Freese has a career .783 OPS and is arguably the better hitter than Bourjos, but Bourjos'...

Cardinals Continue Being Smart, Acquire Peter Bourjos

In the World Series, broadcasts from both TBS and Fox kept telling us how good of a center fielder Jon Jay was. In between plaudits, Jon Jay would inevitably get a poor jump, take a bad route, or just drop an easily catchable ball, sometimes all in the same game. It became something of a running joke, as Jay appeared to be a defensive disaster in the postseason, even while the...

That’ll put them in spots where they’re more comfortable. That also means that Kole Calhoun will move over to right field. So, where...

Ranking the top 10 outfielders in the St. Louis Cardinals organization

With the acquisition of Randal Grichuk and Peter Bourjos last week, the Cardinals got a lot deeper in the outfield, not only at the major league level. A position that was already a strength, got much stronger. My friend Scott Turner at TurnersTwist.com suggested that I rank my top outfielders in the Cardinals system. When putting together this list I am looking for players who will...

TRADE: Angels swap Peter Bourjos for David Freese

The Angels came into this offseason looking to swap some of their excess hitting for some pitching. So what is the first thing they do? Trade Peter Bourjos and Randal Grichuk for third baseman David Freese and reliever Fernando Salas. Obviously that isn't pitching, but it isn't bad either. Third base was a huge hole for the Angels with no real in-house solution. What...
