SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants have had defensive problems this season and know what it's like to make three errors in the game. So when the Cardinals were guilty of committing three miscues on Thursday, San Francisco took advantage of the extra opportunities. Brandon Crawford drove in a pair of runs, and although Matt Cain gave up more runs than usual, it was just enough run support to get the win as the Giants beat the Cardinals 7-5 to split this brief two-game series. "It felt good, we'd been struggling doing that; I have too," said Crawford as the Giants were batting .167 with runners in scoring position in their last three games before Thursday's win. "As a team we got a lot of guys in scoring position today, and it was nice to do and hopefully we can carry it over into the (A's) series. Cain (3-2) pitched six innings, allowing eight hits and four runs, winning his first game at home since he tossed a one-hitter against the Pirates on Apri...

POSTGAME WRAP: Today’s Game Brought To You By E-Surance

The Giants got insurance runs. Now, normally, Giants games go one of three ways: -The Giants have a small lead, the offense shuts down, and the bullpen locks up the win -The Giants have a small lead, the offense shuts down, and the bullpen loses the game -The Giants never lead because the offense never booted. The hypothetical fourth option in the game of baseball would be: -Team...

How Long Should the Giants Keep Melk-ing It?

…because you come here for the super clever post titles. No one has ever played off of the Melk/milk thing before, right? Melky Cabrera is at it again. After a disastrous 2010 season in Atlanta, the Melk-Man (BOOM! It’s like MILK-Man, get it?) bounced back for a career year with the Royals in 2011. He was a good bet to regress, right? The Royals, who had Lorenzo Cain on deck...

Costly errors doom Cards in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Brandon Crawford hit a two-run single for his first RBIs since April and the San Francisco Giants capitalized on shoddy fielding by St. Louis to give Matt Cain support on a rare shaky day as the Giants beat the Cardinals 7-5 on Thursday. St. Louis made three errors in a game for the second time this week with the most important coming in the sixth inning: Third...

Cards head west to face Bumgarner, Giants

(AP) -- Already among elite company, Madison Bumgarner has a chance to become just the fourth pitcher in team history to win nine consecutive home starts since the Giants moved to San Francisco. Not having to face former teammate Carlos Beltran would likely help his chances. In a matchup of the two most recent World Series champions, the Giants open a two-game set against a St...

A Breakdown Of The SF Giants Super Premium Seats

The St. Louis Cardinals thumped the San Francisco Giants last night in Pac Bell or whatever the hell it’s called Park. They’ll tussle again today around 2p STL time. A long time ago I got a job offer in San Francisco. They even flew me out for a couple days to check out the city. The company with questionable taste even went so far as to bring in a real estate broker to talk...

That Golden Gate Bridge Patch

The Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary Patch Want to get that awesome Golden Gate Bridge patch the Giants are wearing?  They’re for sale from the GGB’s 75th Anniversary Store for a ridiculously reasonable price.  Seriously, I usually pay more than that for shipping.  Wait…I am paying more for shipping on that than for the actual patch! I blame UPS.  And rising gas prices...

Giants 8, Athletics 6

Barry Zito outdid his old Oakland team, Brandon Belt drove in three runs, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Oakland Athletics in the Bay Bridge Series opener 8-6 on Friday night Hector Sanchez had two RBIs to back Zito (3-1), who won the 2002 AL Cy Young Award across the bay in Oakland but left for a $126 million, seven-year deal with the Giants before the 2007 season. Josh...

Brad Penny, Giants agree on minor league deal

Right-hander Brad Penny has agreed to terms on a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants as a candidate to help in the bullpen. Penny, who briefly pitched for the Giants down the down the stretch in 2009 and went 4-1 with a 2.59 ERA in six starts, is scheduled to report to extended spring training in Arizona on Monday. He threw a bullpen session Friday afternoon at AT...

Athletics-Giants Preview

Barry Zito is off to the best start of his much-maligned tenure with the San Francisco Giants. He'll try to keep things going against his former team. Zito will look to help the Giants win their 10th straight at home versus the Oakland Athletics on Friday night when the Bay Area rivals open a three-game series. In the second-to-last year of a seven-year, $126 million contract...

Bridge To Nowhere? A's Travel To SF

In recent years, knowing who would win a game in the Bay Bridge Series was as simple as looking at the location of the game. Both the Oakland A's and the San Francisco Giants have dominated in their home parks against one another. The A's will look to buck that trend this weekend, as they travel to AT&T Park for a three-game set. Chris Biderman previews the match-up.

Pushup Recognition

Sure, I post this after the Giants won by getting a lot of hits, but this goes back the last few weeks. It is getting damn frustrating watching a lot of these guys, even the ones I have irrational man-love for like Schierholtz and Belt, swing at terrible pitches, and then let fastballs in the zone go by.  What are they looking for? Now, since my parents (and multiple jobs) have...
